Full Job Description

The Application Support & Development team supports and develops business-critical applications across Children & Learning services. In this post, you'll work closely with our Libraries service to support the Civica Spydus library management system and the other applications and interfaces that help our libraries run day to day., As an Application Development Officer, you will deliver upgrades, development activity and third-line application support for Civica Spydus and other library systems. You'll investigate incidents, test and implement changes, produce reports and documentation, and help build self-service capability for users across the Libraries service.

  • Provide third-line support for Civica Spydus and connected library services, troubleshooting incidents and problems through to resolution, including workarounds where appropriate.
  • Plan, coordinate, test and implement system upgrades, patches and configuration changes, working with service teams, ICT colleagues, suppliers and third parties.
  • Analyse customer requirements and act as a liaison point for Libraries, advising on application development options and supporting business process improvements.
  • Produce and develop reports from various datasets using reporting tools, and support managers with the provision and interpretation of bespoke reporting.
  • Create and maintain user guidance, knowledge base articles, test scripts, system documentation and training materials; deliver 1:1 and group support and training where required.

Central to this are excellent communication and interpersonal skills together with the ability to build and develop professional relationships across the council and beyond., The Application Support & Development team (Children & Learning) is looking for a motivated and experienced individual to join us as an Application Development Officer. This is a key role supporting the Libraries service, and you must be able to demonstrate previous, detailed knowledge of supporting the Civica Spydus library management system to a high level, alongside other systems relevant to the running of libraries., NVQ Level 4 in Information Technology (or equivalent) or at least 5 years' experience in an information technology / information management environment.
  • Essential: extensive, hands-on experience providing third-line support for the Civica Spydus library management system (including incident/problem investigation, configuration support, upgrades and release testing) and supporting users in a live service environment.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to interpret complex information accurately and explain solutions clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience producing business reports from different datasets using reporting tools, and supporting managers with bespoke reporting and insight.
  • Proven ability to write and maintain high-quality documentation (user guides, test scripts, knowledge base articles) and deliver user support and training (1:1 and group), prioritising workload effectively and building productive working relationships.
