Full Job Description
This post offers an exciting opportunity to join the Ophthalmology team at the Sussex Eye Hospital under the supervision of Mr Mayank A. Nanavaty, Consultant (Cornea & Anterior segment). Mr Nanavaty carries out complex cataract, corneal and specialist anterior segment surgeries., The clinical duties of the post include the following:
Assisting in all aspects of theatre, inpatient and outpatient care.
Pre- and post-operative patient care.
Research and clinical improvement projects: the fellowship has a strong research focus, and the post-holder is expected to take an active role in ongoing and new research studies and clinical improvement projects.
Teaching of medical students during their ophthalmology rotation.
On Call Commitment: 1:8 Registrar on-call duties (non-resident).
The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior. While it has been agreed between the professions that they will perform such duties, the Secretary of State stresses that additional commitments arising under this sub-section are exceptions and you should not be required to undertake work of this kind for prolonged periods or on a regular basis.
