Full Job Description
The department teaches students in various aspects of animal care including health monitoring, accommodation, behaviors and feeding a variety of species, students also practice dog training and grooming. The Technician will support lecturers and practical skills instructors in providing relevant animals for students to develop their skills, demonstrate best practice in their daily work and offer guidance and support if appropriate.
The Animal Care technicians form an integral part of the delivery team. The primary responsibility of the job role is to maintain animal health and well being in our care. Priority should be given on a daily basis to ensure each animal has appropriate food, water, accommodation and care to maintain their health to a high standard. Best practice should be demonstrated at all times with organization, maintenance of facilities and resources being managed to keep work areas neat and tidy.
Supplies of appropriate feed must be ordered and maintained at all times, equipment should be stored and maintained in good order, systems of work should be well structured with work areas being well organized and maintained
As the animals require daily care technician cover is required 7 days per week 365 days a year, during term time there will be a regular weekly schedule, you may be required to work weekends on a rota basis, a rota of cover will be agreed for holiday periods as staff take leave, sufficient technician cover will be required at all time, it is therefore necessary to schedule holidays and leave well in advance of holidays so arrangements are clear and cover is maintained.
Salary: £13,112 - £13,362 per annum, dependent on qualifications and experience
The Animal Care department is based at Coleg Glynllifon. Students study full-time level 1, 2 and 3 courses, there are also school groups that attend during the week. With guidance students develop understanding and skills through planned practical activities. These will build in complexity during their course to establish students' competence so they meet the requirements of the exam board.
