Full Job Description

o To establish, lead and maintain high standards of pre/ peri and post-operative clinical care.o To coordinate clinical activities and develop clinical expertise through leadership.o To undertake teaching and training of both trained and untrained staffo To develop management skills and undertake management duties as directed by the Senior Sistero To ensure that skilled assistance is provided to the anaesthetist, as per Royal College of Anaesthetists' guidelines.o To be responsible for the provision of high quality, individualised care to patients/clients and relatives.

We are looking for a motivated and experienced Senior Anaesthetic Practitioner to join our Eye Treatment Centre at Whipps Cross Hospital. This role is ideal for a registered Nurse or ODP with strong experience in anaesthetics and recovery who is keen to take on a leadership role.You will play a key part in delivering safe, high-quality peri-operative care, supporting anaesthetists, and leading junior staff across theatres and pre-assessment. You will also contribute to teaching, service improvement, and the smooth running of theatre lists.You should be a confident team player with good communication skills, able to work independently when required, and committed to maintaining high clinical standards and patient safety. Experience in ophthalmology is desirable but not essential., Qualifications Essential

  • NMC/HCPC Registered Nurse/ODP
  • Desirable
  • Post-registration recovery or anaesthetic course or Leadership qualification.
  • Experience Essential
  • Substantial Band 5 experience in recovery and/or anaesthetics
  • Desirable
  • Previous Band 6 experience
  • Ophthalmic recovery experience
  • Involvement in service improvement projects
  • Knowledge Essential
  • Sound knowledge of post-anaesthetic care, airway management, and emergency protocols.
  • Understanding of clinical governance, patient safety, and NMC professional standards
  • Desirable
  • Awareness of quality improvement, audit, and service development processes.
  • Knowledge of leadership principles and supporting staff in practice.
  • Skills Essential
  • Ability to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate safe, evidence-based care in the recovery setting
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Desirable
  • Leadership and delegation skills to support, supervise and motivate junior staff.
  • Skills in audit, teaching, or quality improvement projects

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
