Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic equine vet to join our friendly, supportive and progressive independent ambulatory practice.

Located between Ascot and Henley-on-Thames, within easy reach of London and major airports, we serve a diverse client base ranging from high-goal polo teams to professional showjumpers, dressage riders and leisure clients.

We welcome applications from equine vets with a wide range of experience, although applicants should have sufficient equine experience to work independently in ambulatory practice. The role and level of responsibility can be tailored to reflect the successful applicant's experience, clinical skills and career aspirations. We are committed to genuine long-term career progression and have an established, structured career development pathway. Progression recognises not only clinical ability and experience, but also the broader skills required to take on increasing responsibility within a veterinary business.

The successful applicant will join a supportive team of vets, backed by dedicated and knowledgeable office staff. We foster a collaborative environment, with in-depth weekly meetings to discuss ongoing cases and share knowledge and insights. As members of XLVets, a community of independently owned practices, we also benefit from a wider shared knowledge base, regular group meetings and clinical and non-clinical CPD.

We have an extensive pool of portable diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, including four wireless DR systems, six ultrasound scanners, a video gastroscope, two video endoscopes, focal shockwave, therapeutic laser, four motorised dental kits and in-house blood machines. We aim to perform comprehensive case work-ups on yards, referring mainly for advanced diagnostics and surgery, and have strong relationships with leading referral hospitals in the Southeast.

In addition to paid annual leave, we operate a discretionary four-day working week during the winter and a nine-day working fortnight during the summer. Out-of-hours cover is shared between our vets and an external provider, with days off in lieu following weekends on call. The current rota varies from approximately 1 in 5 during the summer to around 1 in 12 during the winter.

Salary will be competitive and tailored to the successful applicant, reflecting their experience, clinical skills and level of responsibility. The package also includes accommodation if required, private medical insurance, workplace pension, use of a well-equipped work vehicle, iPhone and iPad, VDS cover, and RCVS and BEVA memberships.

We place a strong emphasis on continuing professional development, with very generous allowances for relevant CPD. Certificates are encouraged and fully funded.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a professional and supportive team, working with a varied caseload of performance and leisure horses and developing long-term relationships with loyal clients.
