An exciting opportunity has arisen for two individuals to join University Hospitals Dorset as AKI Specialist Nurses, supporting the ongoing development of this vital service.
The specialist role focuses on the early identification, assessment, and management of patients with Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) across the organisation. You will work autonomously across front door and inpatient areas, delivering expert clinical assessment and initiating timely interventions to influence high-quality care, and make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes across the Trust.
The service currently operates Monday to Friday

Interview Date: 12th May 2026, To understand the role in more detail please carefully read the job description and person specification documents attached., + Identify, review, and plan care for patients diagnosed with AKI
+ Deliver expert, patient-centred clinical assessment and management
+ Work proactively to reduce the incidence and impact of AKI across the Trust
+ Respond to the daily needs of the inpatient AKI population
+ Provide specialist advice on fluid management, medications, and treatment planning
+ Support early recognition of deterioration and escalation of care
+ Educate and support staff to promote best practice in line with NICE guidance
+ Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and service development
+ Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including UHD Consultant Nephrologists and the Renal team at Dorset County Hospital.
