Our goal is to explore and implement artificial intelligence technologies to improve the justice system. This includes enhancing efficiency, consistency in decision-making, and access to legal advice. The role of AI Adoption Lead has a significant and far-reaching impact on the organisation. The AI Adoption Lead plays a pivotal role in leading AI adoption and integration across the MOJ workforce. By overseeing the roll-out of productivity AI tools such as Copilot and ChatGPT, the role ensures that employees can leverage these technologies to enhance their efficiency and effectiveness. This leads to improved productivity and streamlines processes across the organisation. The AI Adoption Lead ensures that AI strategies and roadmaps are aligned with the overall goals and priorities of the MOJ. By implementing innovative AI solutions in collaboration with digital and data science teams, the role drives strategic initiatives that support the continuous improvement and modernisation of justice services. The role has both short-term and long-term effects on the organisation. In the short term, the AI Adoption Lead ensures the timely and successful delivery of AI projects and initiatives. In the long term, the role contributes to the transformation of the justice system by enhancing efficiency, consistency in decision-making, and access to legal advice through the use of AI technologies. We are responsible for:
- Leading the AI transformation agenda across the Ministry of Justice and its agencies.
- Developing and implementing innovative AI solutions in collaboration with digital and data science teams.
- Ensuring ethical, transparent, and fair use of AI technologies within the justice system.
- Supporting the continuous improvement and modernisation of justice services through AI adoption.
- Rolling out productivity AI tools such as Copilot and ChatGPT and ensuring their safe adoption by MOJ employees. What you'll do
- Play a pivotal role leading AI adoption and integration across the MOJ workforce.
- Oversee the roll-out of productivity AI tools across the MOJ and its agencies, ensuring timely and successful delivery.
- Build and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, promoting AI initiatives and securing buy-in.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on AI best practices, ethical considerations, and risk management.
- Help teams identify processes that can be improved with AI
- Support teams to create agents and custom GPTs, providing hands-on support and guidance
- Collaborate with data science, digital, and strategy teams to develop and refine AI use cases and solutions.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of AI initiatives, using data-driven insights to inform continuous improvement., The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity. Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone's circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review. For nationally advertised role: all successful candidates will be appointed to the nearest viable office nearest to their home postcode and on its respective pay scale. This will be at either a HQ building (subject to desk allocation, a Justice Collaboration Centre (JCC) or a Justice Satellite Office (JSO) - See Map. All employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in an office, subject to local estate capacity). For current MoJ employees, your base location will need to be changed to the nearest viable office (to your home postcode), either at a HQ building, JCC or JSO within the National Office Network and moved its location's respective pay scale (any legacy arrangements/locations will need to be amended). Some of MoJ's terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made. MoJ candidates who are on a specialist grade, will be able to retain their grade on lateral transfer. All candidates who are currently in receipt of Mark Time / Pay Protection should ensure they are familiar with the new policy on permanent and temporary promotion which can be found on the employee intranet. Flexible working hours The Ministry of Justice offers a flexible working system in many offices. Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week. MoJ welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns, where they meet the demands of the role and business needs. All applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJ's Flexible Working policy.
- Proven experience in leading digital transformation projects, ideally within the public sector or justice system
- Strong understanding of change management, business process improvement, and organisational development.
- Awareness and understanding of AI technologies and solutions, with the ability to keep up with the evolving landscape, including tools, services, and developments in large language models (LLMs).
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to diverse audiences.
- Experience in stakeholder management, with a track record of building and maintaining effective partnerships.
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
- Ability to translate AI technologies into practical use cases that enhance productivity and effectiveness.
- Confidence with data analysis, especially to communicate AI impact and ROI to internal and external stakeholders.
- Preferred: Experience in ethical AI practices and regulatory compliance.
- Preferred: Evidence of delivering impactful AI projects or programmes in a service transformation context.
