Full Job Description

Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) is seeking an exceptional, autonomous Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) to join our Health & Justice Directorate. This is more than a nursing role; it is an opportunity to act as a senior autonomous clinical decision-maker, shaping the future of mental health delivery within the secure estate.

The Mission: Care Without Compromise

Working within the Health & Justice system offers a clinical challenge like no other. You will be the champion of "Equivalence of Care" ensuring that some of society's most vulnerable, marginalised, and complex individuals receive the same high standard of mental health treatment they would expect in the community.

In a sector often defined by health inequalities, you will be the bridge to recovery. You will work with a population where the prevalence of trauma, neurodivergence, and dual diagnosis is high, but where the opportunity for transformative intervention is even higher.

This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to provide specialist mental health assessment, treatment and clinical leadership within a diverse and dynamic population, supporting stepped care mental health delivery from assessment to specialist secondary care.

Greater Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) Foundation Trust employs over 7000 members of staff, who deliver services from more than 122 locations.

We provide inpatient and community-based mental health care for people living in Bolton, the city of Manchester, Salford,Trafford and the borough of Wigan, and a wide range of specialist mental health and substance misuse services across Greater Manchester, the north west of England and beyond.

Greater Manchester is one of the world's most innovative, original and exciting places to live and work. From the beauty of the surrounding countryside to the heart of the vibrant inner city with great shopping, entertainment and dining options.

Wherever you go you will experience a great northern welcome with people famed for their warmth, humour and generosity.

Our people enjoy their work, have opportunities to learn and develop their skills and are encouraged to generate new ideas that improve care for our service users.

You will be the clinical linchpin of our service, embodying the four pillars of Advanced Practice

1. Clinical Expertise & Autonomy

You will undertake independent, high-level biopsychosocial assessments for patients with undifferentiated diagnoses. Utilising your Non-Medical Prescribing (V300) qualification, you will initiate and review complex treatment plans for patients with dual diagnoses, psychosis, and severe mental illness. You will be the expert clinician, managing risk and deterioration with autonomy.

2. Strategic Leadership

This is a senior leadership position. You will be part of a wider multi-disciplinary team, providing trusted clinical oversight. You will be a visible role model, leading the interface between the healthcare team and our criminal justice partners. You will advocate for clinical priorities within the security regime, ensuring health remains central to the prisoner's journey.

3. Education & Mentorship

GMMH is a learning organisation. You will drive a culture of continuous improvement, acting as a mentor to AHP colleagues and junior members of the clinical team. You will chair peer review groups, lead reflective practice, and deliver training to MDT staff

4. Research & Service Development

You will not just deliver care; you will shape it. Through audit, benchmarking, and policy development, you will contribute to the national evidence base for prison health. You will lead on local quality improvement initiatives.
