Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen to provide administrative support to the STSFT Lung Cancer Screening Programme (LCSP) which provides screening to people aged 55 to 74 years who have previously smoked and therefore are at risk of developing lung cancer across Sunderland and South Tyneside.
The Programme is delivered by a small but committed team providing Lung Health Checks and CT scans to a population of over 60,000 eligible participants.
Working Monday to Friday, you will be based within South Tyneside District Hospital and will provide administrative support to the Programme for a fixed term period of one year.
You will work alongside Respiratory and Radiology clinical teams within the Trust, contributing to clinical pathway developments and optimising uptake of the screening service across South Tyneside and Sunderland demonstrating excellent planning and organisational skills and taking into account booking schedules for both Lung Health Checks and CT Scans., You will work 8.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday from an office based in South Tyneside General Hospital with 2 other administrators, 5 specialist nurses and a Programme Manager.There will be a need to support the wider clinical team in managing clinical pathways, onward referrals and processing outcomes from weekly clinical meetings (MDT).
You will act as a point of contact for any questions or queries from the general public, providing advice and guidance on the screening pathway, working in partnership with Respiratory and Radiology hospital teams and with primary care in ensuring screening pathways are managed optimally, effectively and safely.You should be prepared to support participants with reasonable adjustments i.e. translation services, transport, flexible appointments and support those with hearing impairments, learning difficulties or where English is not their first language, understanding and upholding all principles of Health Equality.
Cancer screening is an anxious process for some, and you should demonstrate empathy and understanding to participants worried about outcomes and results of the screening process and possible treatment options.This area of work is exciting but still developing and you will be part of a small passionate team making a real impact in cancer care across South Tyneside and Sunderland.You should be a team player with an interest in developing screening pathways to provide a first-class service to the local eligible population.
