Full Job Description
As an EAL Teaching Assistant, you'll play a vital part in helping multilingual learners feel welcomed, understood and empowered. Working closely with the Multilingual Lead and English team, you'll support newly arrived pupils through assessment and induction, deliver targeted small-group and one-to-one interventions, and help adapt learning so that language is never a barrier to ambition. You'll support students across lessons, clarify instructions, develop tailored resources, promote literacy and confidence in English, and build trusting relationships with students and families. Your role will also involve monitoring progress, sharing meaningful feedback, supporting transitions between key stages and working with external agencies when needed.
You'll bring experience or a strong interest in working with young people, ideally within a school setting, alongside excellent communication skills, reliability and attention to detail. You'll be confident using basic IT, able to work flexibly as part of a team, and motivated by a genuine commitment to inclusion, equality and safeguarding. Above all, you'll share our values of compassion, confidence, courtesy, commitment, curiosity and courage, and believe every student deserves to succeed, whatever their starting point.
TDA is a welcoming school community where values guide everything we do. Compassion shapes our relationships, curiosity fuels our innovation, courage helps us challenge barriers, confidence empowers learners and staff, commitment drives our ambition and courtesy underpins the way we treat each other.
You will have access to excellent facilities, high-quality professional development and the support of Thomas Deacon Education Trust. This is a place where you will feel valued, where your expertise will grow and where your work will make a real difference every day.
