Full Job Description
We are currently seeking to recruit two Accountants to provide support to South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Council. As part of our shared services finance team, you will work across both authorities, providing high-quality financial support and advice to a wide range of services.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop broad local government finance experience within a busy and supportive team. You will play a key role in helping the Councils deliver effective services for local communities while contributing to sound financial management and decision-making.
You will support the finance team in delivering a wide range of accountancy services. You should be confident in providing technical advice to managers and in interrogating and understanding financial information. Other duties will include budget monitoring, budget preparation and playing a key part in the annual closure of accounts process.
You should be at least part AAT qualified or be able to demonstrate equivalent work experience in a finance role.
You will have an aptitude for finance and be looking to further your career in this field. Whether you are building on existing local government experience or looking to broaden your professional skills, you will be keen to learn, develop and contribute positively to the team.
You will be proactive, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and meet key deadlines. Essential skills include a positive, can-do approach, strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy. You will also be a confident communicator, capable of building effective working relationships with colleagues and managers across both councils.
