Full Job Description

Based at Beal Sixth Form, Beal High School - IG4 5LP

Salary: To be agreed with the successful candidate

Required: November 2026 onwards

Subjects: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Economics, Psychology, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, English and Business

Beacon Academy Trust is seeking to appoint current or recent exam board examiners to mark A-level internal examinations across Beal Sixth Form's largest subjects.

Beal Sixth Form is part of Beal High School, an exceptional school which is consistently in the top 10% of schools nationally. Our students sit internal examinations at key points in Years 12 and 13, and we want the marking of those papers to be as accurate and as close to the exam board standard as possible. This means students receive a reliable picture of their progress and precise feedback on how to improve, and our subject teams learn from examiners who know exactly how marks are awarded and lost.

About the role: Working with the Head of Sixth Form and the relevant Head of Department, you will mark internal examination papers to exam board standards, using the appropriate mark scheme and applying it with the accuracy and consistency expected of a live examining series. You will provide clear written feedback that helps students and their teachers understand where marks were gained and lost, and you will share your examiner expertise with the department through standardisation, moderation and exam-focused CPD. Hybrid or remote marking will be considered, and the time commitment, volume and timing of work will be agreed with you around the Sixth Form's internal examination calendar.

Who we are looking for: Applications are welcome from current or recent exam board examiners and senior examiners (team leaders, principal examiners and equivalent) in any of the subjects listed. We are open to examiners from all exam boards. It is an essential requirement to have marked recently or currently for a UK exam board at A-level in the subject you apply for. You may be a serving teacher looking for additional flexible work, a recently retired colleague, or an examiner who works outside teaching. Applications for more than one subject are welcome where you have examining experience in each.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expects all members of staff to share this commitment.

Enhanced DBS (with list checks) is required for this post.
