3.5 Tonne Driver

Are you fit and healthy and have a 3.5 tonne licence? Do you want to work in a great team who are passionate about their jobs and provide a vital role for the community? Then please read on! Our Recycling & Refuse Team perform a key role in providing an excellent recycling and refuse collection service to the Council's residents. You will be able to work outdoors in all weathers, and deal with a very physically demanding job. It is essential that you are a team player and can communicate with your colleagues and customers, clearly and politely; showing a clear understanding of what good customer care is. Compliance with health and safety guidance is very important for you, team members and the public, due to the heavy lifting machinery, dust, and fumes. Guidance, training, and personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided to all successful candidates.

• You will have the commitment to start the day at 7am and work a 18-hour week Tuesday to Thursday
• Your clean driving licence (speeding points will be discussed) will allow you to drive a 3.5 tonne vehicle and you will have a current and up to date CPC
• You will have a basic Standard of English and Maths and be capable of stock control
• You will have basic computer skills (required to operate in-cab tablet)
• You should have a good knowledge of Health and Safety
• You will have previous experience of working outdoors in all weathers
• You will demonstrate good customer care skills

  Reigate and Banstead Borough Council is part of the government's plans for Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) scheduled to take place in April 2027. This means the current two-tier system, where services are split between Surrey County Council and district and borough councils like Reigate, will be replaced with two unitary councils made up of East and West Surrey, which will handle all local services. Reigate and Banstead Borough Council will form part of the new East Surrey unitary authority.
Although this may lead to some uncertainty for anyone considering a role with us, this process will take some time and during that time we still need to provide services. When local government is reorganised, most staff will transfer to the new council(s) which may offer additional opportunities for career development and variety as part of a larger organisation.
