Caledonian MacBrayne

Profile

Founded in 1851, Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) is an award-winning ferry operator sailing to 30 island destinations across the west coast of Scotland. Our network spans some of the most spectacular coastlines and landscapes in Scotland from Arran in the Firth of Clyde to Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. We carry 5 million passengers annually, running freight, commercial, and tourism services.

Caledonian MacBrayne is part of a proud lineage that stretches back for 175 years. Our name is synonymous with the west coast of Scotland, providing vital lifeline ferry services and carrying millions of people each year to and from the islands and remote peninsular communities. We have been, and remain, a major local employer both on shore and at sea.

Our purpose is to navigate the waters ensuring life thrives wherever we are. Our three core values – People First, Locality and Bravery – embody our purpose and are at the heart of everything we do.

Our operation requires many specialist departments working in harmony to push us forward. Due to the nature of our work – transporting large numbers of people in often unpredictable weather, we must always be ready to adapt. Adaptability and problem-solving skills are a must for life at CalMac. This is balanced by the satisfaction of getting our customers safely to their destination.
