Full Job Description

Working in partnership with Darlington Borough Council, Humankind have been successful in securing funding via the Single Homelessness Accommodation Project fund to provide accommodation and support to young single people aged 18-25 with complex needs, who are at risk of homelessness or rough sleeping. The service will work alongside and complement existing provision in Darlington.

We are recruiting a small team of outreach staff who will provide support to young people across 8-12 units of accommodation which will be dispersed across Darlington.

Staff will hold small caseloads to allow capacity for intensive work with young people to enable them to identify and address key issues in their lives and develop the skills needed to move on and live successful independent lives. Joining the team in these early exciting stages will also provide you with the opportunity to contribute to the set-up and shaping of the service.

In this role you will work with young people aged 18-25 with a wide range of complex needs which may include substance misuse issues, mental health, adverse childhood experiences and repeat homelessness. Support sessions will take place both in the accommodation units and out and about in the community. The successful candidate will have some experience of supporting young people, have good engagement skills, have a flexible approach to work and be a good team player. They will also be able to drive and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Humankind is one of England's most successful home-grown charities. We provide free, confidential support for alcohol, drugs, housing, or mental health in friendly local places across the UK. We are committed to fair chances for all and making sure everyone can access the help and support they need to realise their potential. By joining our teams of passionate individuals, you will be contributing to making this happen. You can really make a difference by believing in our service users and their ability to make positive changes when they don't always believe in themselves.

We are incredibly proud of the work that we do to help address health inequalities in England. Every five minutes, an individual accesses one of our services, and we have supported over 90,000 people across all our services last year. Check out our impact report here to read more about the important work that we have done.
