Full Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Year 5/6 English Teacher to join our dedicated team. The successful candidate will also take on the exciting role of leading our annual summer production, a highlight of our school calendar. In addition to teaching English, you will be responsible for teaching Religious Studies (RS) to students in Years 5 to 6, and preparing our pupils for the 11+ exam.

Key Responsibilities:

· English Teaching: Deliver engaging and effective English lessons to Year 5 and Year 6 students, fostering a love for literature and language.

· Summer Production: Lead, direct, and coordinate our school's summer production, encouraging student participation and creativity.

· Religious Studies: Teach RS to Years 4 to 6, promoting understanding and respect for different beliefs and values.

· 11+ Exam Preparation: Prepare students for the English elements of the 11+ exam, ensuring they are confident and well-prepared for this important milestone.

· Pastoral Care: Provide support and guidance to students, contributing to their overall well-being and personal development.

· Parental Engagement: Communicate effectively with parents, providing regular updates on their child's progress and well-being.

· School Community: Participate in school events, extracurricular activities, and the broader school community.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and self-motivated teacher to join our teaching team within our unique Independent Day School., · Qualifications: A relevant teaching qualification or a degree in English or a related field.

· Experience: Proven experience teaching English at the Key Stage 2 level, with a track record of preparing students for the 11+ exam.

· Passion for Education: A genuine passion for teaching and inspiring young minds. Enthusiasm for the performing arts and ability to motivate students in a creative setting.

· Skills: Strong organisational and leadership skills, particularly in managing school productions. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Adaptability: Flexible and willing to contribute to various aspects of school life. You will be expected to run one after school club each week and attend various FOCs (Friends of Chard School) events outside of the working work (around 4-5 each year).

Desirable:

· Experience teaching Religious Studies.

· Previous involvement in school productions or extracurricular activities.

· Familiarity with the independent school sector.

Hours: 0.4 equivalent (can be spread over multiple days to suit candidate)
