Full Job Description

West Yorkshire Police is looking to recruit a Coroner's Officer to join the team to deliver an effective and efficient coronial service. You will provide an essential liaison between the coroner, relatives of the deceased, and other agencies involved in dealing with sudden, violent or unnatural deaths.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication and listening skills, who has a sensitive and compassionate approach to deal with bereaved people. Experience of working in an environment requiring sensitivity, tact and diplomacy is essential.

You will have the ability to liaise with medical and legal professionals, police, and witnesses. You will also have excellent investigative skills and background knowledge of how to investigate and problem-solve, as well as inquiring mind to support the ongoing inquest work.
You will be able to present evidence to the coroner in court and be committed to partnership working. You will also be good with people, great in a team and naturally resilient. As an approachable and understanding problem solver, you'll give accurate information and diffuse difficult situations. An understanding and appreciation of religious and cultural requirements following death is also a requirement.

A full current UK/European driving licence is a requirement, as is access to a motor vehicle that you would be prepared to use for business purposes. You will be prepared to work flexible hours to suit the needs of the unit, including being part of an on-call rota.
