Full Job Description

  • This role forms a key part of a high performing Commercial team responsible for supporting all parts of the C&C business - Matthew Clark, Bibendum, Bibendum Off Trade, Walker & Wodehouse and Tennent's. The responsibilities for the team are to manage and develop our wine supply base ensuring market-leading wine quality, price and innovation, and ways of working across the GB On and Off Trade.

  • Accountable for the selection and sourcing of wine, negotiating cost pricing and managing the category of suppliers from a specific region and/or country, ensuring alignment with business strategy. Key to this role is the commercial performance of every sku and supplier to service all On and Off Trade requirements.
    Clear ownership of all commercials, sales performance and supplier income, including funding support, is integral to the success of the role with the objective to improve both sales and margin in line with business targets
    About the role
    In this role, you'll curate a wine portfolio from specific regions, negotiating supplier contracts and ensuring adherence to payment terms. You'll maintain strong supplier relationships through regular reviews and collaborate with sales teams to launch new wines, providing necessary education. Hosting tastings for various stakeholders, you'll uphold quality standards and analyse category performance to identify growth opportunities.
    You'll also work with the Category team to refine the supplier strategy, conduct competitor reviews, and represent the organisation in industry forums. Travel to buying regions will be required to nurture business relationships, and overseeing direct reports will ensure clear performance measures and development opportunities. As part of the senior wine team, you'll contribute to implementing the organisation's wine strategy, always adhering to company policies and procedures, including compliance with the Bribery Act.

    As an experienced buyer, you bring valuable expertise, ideally with a background in purchasing across various regions. Your skills as a negotiator are evident, and you possess a keen commercial awareness of both the Drinks On and Off trade. With experience in blending and a discerning commercial palate, you excel at shaping wine ranges to meet market demands effectively.
    Your track record demonstrates your ability to influence stakeholders across a spectrum of backgrounds, and you have established a strong network within the wine industry. Your numeracy skills enable you to navigate financial aspects with ease, and your management capabilities ensure efficient team performance. Overall, your wealth of experience and skills make you a strong candidate for this role.
