Full Job Description

To deliver Water Services' business targets in terms of customer service, asset reliability, compliance and cost. Provide technical, engineering and managerial support to the Eastern Area Water Distribution Manager in the Gwent area.

This will include:

1. Effective and active management of Operational Supervisors and front line operating and maintenance teams in a geographical area.

2. Supporting the Area Distribution Manager in delivering the optimal performance of water distribution assets (Primarily, Water Distribution Network, Water Pumping stations, Water Holding tanks (Service Reservoirs). This will be achieved through managing a team of colleagues. You will lead on the delivery of key business targets in relation to health and safety, water quality, water reliability, customer service and cost efficiency.

3. Continually review asset and teams' performance to achieve key business targets.

4. Deliver and achieve high levels of customer service and satisfaction to achieve upper quartile regulator performance through C-Mex surveys (satisfaction survey) and Quantitative measures example complaints and repeat calls received.

5. You will be responsible to ensure area drinking Water Safety Plans are accurate and up to date ensuring effective risk mitigation and controls are in place. Work collaboratively with stakeholders for example Water Science, Water Assets and Water Capital teams to help manage risks and deliver improvements through operational processes, maintenance plans and capital investment.

6. Deputise for the Area Distribution Manager when required and lead the team during emergencies, and absences.

7. Health and Safety management for all those involved in the delivery of Water Distribution activities in the geographic operating area, including direct and subcontract supply chain.

8. Ensure compliance with all statutory and legislative requirements.

9. Utilise performance data, information and reports to actively manage individual, team and asset performance to deliver all Water Distribution targets.

10. Promote and lead regular team meetings, briefings and 121s with colleagues. Support Operational Supervisors with content and delivery to ensure colleagues receive effective communications of business priorities and performance.

11. Undertake any other duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

  • DWI as required in support of the Area Distribution Manager

    Experience in maintaining and operating a water distribution network at a senior level

  • Experience of leading/ managing a team of colleagues to deliver great customer service
    Experience of achieving Water Quality standards

    Qualifications
  • A higher national diploma, or equivalent, in engineering or science


  • Experience
  • Previous experience of managing or supervising operational teams or operated at a senior technical, engineering or scientific support level

  • Good analytical and data interrogation skills and an ability to extract relevant information and present it in a logical and structured manner

  • Able to demonstrate good communication skills and effective people and team management, including leading team meetings, briefings, 121s and performance reviews

  • Able to demonstrate commercial awareness of cost and budgetary management and delivering efficiencies in operational budgets

  • Has a strong focus on problem resolution and has the tenacity and determination to see through a job to its full conclusion

  • Good awareness of the principles of Lean operations and able to translate these principles into day to day operations

  • A team player who is flexible and adaptable to changing situations and can present a positive and constructive approach to others within the team
