Full Job Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Veterinary Diagnostic Radiographer to join our existing Diagnostic Imaging team. The team consists of two veterinary radiologists, two residents, one intern and two veterinary radiographers. The team provides imaging services to the specialties in the hospital, including internal medicine, neurology, orthopedics, soft tissue surgery, cardiology, oncology, ophthalmology and dermatology. Working 38 hours over a four-day week (8am - 6pm) with no weekend or bank holiday commitments. Part-time hours would also be considered., The primary role of the applicant will be to take an active and unsupervised role in the busy x-ray rooms, managing the workload and ensuring high quality diagnostic images are obtained:

  • Acquiring high-quality diagnostic studies in a safe and time-efficient manner.

  • Providing training in radiography skills to nurses and interns.

    We invite applications for qualified diagnostic radiographers holding either a BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography, or other relevant degree / qualification. Experience in veterinary radiography, CT and MRI is desirable but not essential for the right person.

    Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists is a multidisciplinary referral centre, located in the South of England, close to the New Forest National Park and South Coast, offering easy access to a multitude of outdoor activities.

  • Bournemouth beach has just been voted number one beach in the UK by Tripadvisor and is only a 20-minute drive from the practice. The area also offers good access to regional and international airports, with excellent road and rail links to London.
    Our hospital facility enjoyed a £5 million redevelopment completed November 2022, which included a new reception, consulting rooms, new theatre complex and physiotherapy facility. Further redevelopment is planning to create a dedicated diagnostic Imaging building, which will include a neurology and medicine suite.

    The hospital boats state of the art Imaging equipment which includes the following;
  • Fuji Visionary Suite x-ray room in our theatre building.

  • Philips Diagnost DR x-ray room in the main hospital building (to be replaced in late 2024 with a second Fuji room).

  • Fuji Nano portable x-ray machine for plain film theatre work.

  • Two fluoroscopy image intensifiers are used for cardiology, interventional medicine and orthopaedic cases.

  • 64 slice Siemens Somatom Perspective CT scanner.

  • 1.5 Tesla Hallmarq MR scanner ( to be replaced by a Siemens Altea 1.5Tesla MRI within the next 12 months).

  • Two Samsung RS80 ultrasound machines.
