Value for Money Manager: (Nationwide) London, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool

Let's talk about the role:

Following the adoption of the NAO's new VfM code of practice for local authority and NHS audits in 2020/21, the public sector audit partners are looking to expand the capacity and expertise available to deliver the greater depth and breadth of work that this entails. Your contribution will be in the form of focused project work, in response to specific VfM risks identified by the audit team at the planning stage. Typically, these projects will be between 5 and 10 days in duration at selected audit clients

across England but could be longer. We would be looking for you to take a lead role in delivering the projects, managing the client, doing the initial analysis/ reviewing and compiling draft findings. We will put the appropriate support around you throughout the process, to develop our collective thinking and our messaging in the final report, and of course discussing this with the audit team. We expect post COVID working habits to continue the emphasis on remote working, but we hope to have the opportunity to travel to meet clients in due course.

You would be part of our wider team of specialists and we anticipate that you would also become involved in the work of our internal audit, counter fraud, well led, and clinical governance. There will also be opportunities to work on joint projects with our advisory team.

The specific work programme will be tailored to the particular risk identified at each client, however examples of potential subject matter are: Financial Sustainability, Governance, Economy and Efficiency and effectiveness.

This is a permanent contract that for internal and external applicants.

  • Making quality second nature. The work that you will do has a major impact on our clients and our firm. We pride ourselves on the high-level standards and quality we expect from our people.

  • Own your own work. You will: oversee audit teams; be a key point of contact to our clients; assist audit partners in establishing audit approach; review audit work papers and ensure that audit files are completed in a timely manner

  • Be a part of a team. You will be a part of a dynamic public sector audit team, with specific responsibility for a group of employees to ensure audit work is appropriately completed to satisfy audit objectives

  • Take responsibility. We will empower you to act as a trusted business adviser to our clients. You will be responsible for managing a significant portfolio of clients and will always strive to build and maintain good working relationships with all colleagues and clients

  • Build your brand. You will have the opportunity to take on wider department responsibilities, such as pitching for new work, recruitment or people management. You will have opportunities to develop yourself and others, driving your own development with the support of your people manager.

We are looking for candidates with experience of working with local government and/or NHS clients and/or who are interested in the local government and NHS sectors and keen to develop their skills and knowledge.

  • We envisage a some knowledge of local authority and NHS financial statements, and a reasonably good understanding of how council's, NHS trusts, and CCGs function and basic management and governance arrangements.

  • Knowledge of VfM audit, internal audit, well led, clinical governance, and counter fraud would be beneficial, but not essential.

  • We envisage that this role would suit a manager or experienced in-charge (pre-qualified), or relatively recently qualified accountant up to manager grade.

opportunities to travel to clients later in the year. It is expected that for the most part, candidates will be able to work from home or local offices when not required at client sites.

Do you care about the same things we do?

We have six values we work by. When we meet, we'll want you to show us how they're important to you, too.

Collaboration: We work together, share ideas and always make time to help each other out.

Leadership: Everyone has the chance to lead their own projects.

Excellence: Quality is central to our purpose. We love what we do, and it shows. We sweat the details. We see things through, no matter how tricky.

Agility: The world moves quickly. To keep up, we stay flexible - changing approaches, changing projects, working offline, online, together and alone to get things done.

Respect: A given, of course: we value each other and our clients. We listen, we understand, we care.

Responsibility: The decisions we make and advice we give affects people's lives and livelihoods. We take that seriously and always do well by doing what's right.

    Bring your whole self

Now you've seen our values, it shouldn't be a surprise that we're creating a respectful, open, diverse place to work. Building an inclusive culture, where we value difference and respect our colleagues, is not just the

right thing to do, it helps our people to perform at the best of their ability and realise their potential. "We are committed to making sure that the opportunities within our firm are equally accessible for

everyone - regardless of background or gender." Dave Dunckley, CEO

There's more to life than work

Families, children, sports, night classes…the things you do and the people you're with outside work

matter. They can inspire, motivate and energise you. Inside the office and out. So if you'd like to work

flexibly, let us know. We're happy to look at flexible working options for all our roles, and we'll always do

our best to keep your work and life in balance.
