Full Job Description

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Transport Operations planner based in our Nelson office, working alongside our existing planners with responsibilities for our General Haulage fleet working throughout the UK.

Role Requirements

  • Support management of the shift plan, ensuring all necessary resources are available to meet the daily requirement.

  • Fully embrace being part of a wider team, always happy to help with a positive can-do attitude.

  • Prepare reports and keep all systems up to date.

  • Contact drivers to understand delays, manage any ad-hoc issues and escalate where appropriate

  • Accurate completion of documentation to meet depot process and legislative requirements and the managing of these documents on dispatch and return.

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • Strong communication skills: ability to communicate effectively with drivers, customers, and colleagues locally and throughout the business

  • You will understand the legal demands of working within the driving sector (such as WTD, LGV License requirements, Infringements etc)

  • Experience of General Haulage & Pallet Network(s) would be an advantage

  • Excellent IT skills

  • Understand the financial impact on operational decisions

  • Ensure all consignments are updated on the TMS system

  • Monitor all routes and ensure delays are kept to a minimum

  • Regularly checking through the driver's trips on tracking systems to monitor progress and liaising with clients regarding deliveries to deliver a first-class service.


  • What will I be responsible for?
  • Effective management and planning of drivers and office staff

  • Controlling and planning an agreed amount of resource (vehicles, drivers, trailers)

  • Ensuring all legal requirements are adhered to (WTD & EU drivers' hours regulations)

  • To ensure the daily plan is formed then, completed managing resources effectively, maximising utilisation whilst minimising cost.

  • Make use of planning tools and systems to manage workload and monitor efficiency

  • Understanding and achieving key performance targets relating to the safety and efficiency of their fleet

  • Working hours are Monday to Friday, with weekend on call, arranged on Rota. Although due to the nature of work some flexibility must be given

  • Communicate effectively and deliver excellent customer service to all internal and external customers

    Planning: 3 years (preferred)
