Full Job Description

SBC Transfer Team Members are the first and last point of contact for all students arriving and departing at Heathrow, and in some instances other London airports, and assisting them with their onward journey to their chosen SBC programme. This vital role involves ensuring the safe and welcoming meet and greet for students attending our courses, alongside the maintenance of meticulous communications with the wider Transfer Team and Head Office. SBC Transfer Team Members must have strong communication and logistical skills, have an eye for detail, and thrive in busy and changing environments., The SBC Transfer Team will be based at Heathrow Airport over the Saturday, Sunday and Monday Transfer Days. Transfer Days will involve long and intensive working days. Food and hotel accommodation will be provided. Outside of these key transfer days, the Transfer Team will be accommodated at an SBC summer school and will be required to support with ad hoc transfer requests or Summer School programme responsibilities as directed by the Transfer Manager alongside the site Summer School Director/College Principal., A normal working week for Transfer Teams will consist of up to 55 hours per week.

Transfer Team Members will work the majority of their hours over the core transfer days; Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Transfer days will involve very early starts and late finishes. Often, you will travel to the airport the night before transfer day, in order to be ready to begin early in the morning. Transport and accommodation will be provided in these instances.

Outside of the core transfer days, you may be based at an SBC summer school where you may be asked to assist with ad hoc transfers, transfer day administrative preparation and other Summer School duties.

All staff will receive one full day off per week.

Main Duties:

  • Be present at Heathrow Airport during all site transfer days and at other times when necessary.

  • Meet and greet individual or groups of students on arrival at Heathrow airport.

  • Ensure safe transition from the airport to welcome club or onward transfer vehicle

  • Be a named person to meet and sign for students travelling on the Unaccompanied Minor (UM) service

  • Assist departing students with check-in and send-off.

  • Maintain thorough communications with the Transfer Manager, updating them on all student collections, departures and handovers.

  • Liaising with Transfer Managers and Head Office to identify and resolve issues

  • Communicate with students, parents, guardians, airport staff, transport companies, and other members of the SBC Summer Schools times in a friendly and professional manner.

  • Deal sensitively with situations that may arise.

  • Be committed to the safeguarding and welfare of students in your care.

  • Adhere to all Health and Safety measures (including COVID safety measures, risk assessments and other policies and procedures)

  • Carry out ad hoc transfers on non-transfer days to requested destinations, including London St Pancras, London Gatwick or other airports.

  • Support the administrative preparation of transfer days as directed by the Transfer Manager.

  • Attend transfer day briefings and ensuring full understanding of the transfer day requirements.

  • Collect and submit receipts as directed by the Transfer Manager, supporting the SBC Finance Team with any further finance information they require.

  • Assist at any time, whether on duty or not, with an emergency situation

  • Provide feedback on your experiences during & also at the end of summer


  • Please note that being a Named Person may require your data (name and passport information) being shared as part of the identification verification process for Unaccompanied Minors (UMs).


  • General Duties:

    The welfare of students is paramount to us and every member of the team is expected to assist in maintaining the welfare and order at the site, including in the accommodation.
  • Help with student transfers for any arrivals and departures if needed. This can include at airports, train stations and in taxis

  • Accompany and supervise students on offsite excursions and activities, where required

  • Actively supervise and interact with students during meal and break times

  • Empower students to successfully engage in the programme while helping develop independence, confidence and social skills

  • As with all residential work, be able to show a large degree of flexibility

  • Help ensure that the students do not breach the rules of the college

  • Engage with the students at all times, in a friendly but professional manner

  • Assist at any time, whether on duty or not, with an emergency situation

  • Provide feedback on your experiences during & also at the end of summer

  • You will provide the details of two recent and relevant referees who we will contact and specifically ask about your suitability to work with children and any concerns.

  • You will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (DBS), and equivalent if you live, or have lived, outside of the UK

  • You will be asked to state that you have no known reason why you cannot work with children

  • Official identification and certificates will be required for our records

    All members of staff employed by SBC will be expected to bring certain key qualities to the operation. There must be a professional interest in working with young people and particularly international children. Safety and welfare of the students is of paramount importance at SBC and a practical enforcing of this belief should be a quality exhibited by all staff.

We expect all staff to take control of students and to manage discipline and behavioural issues in a firm, positive and constructive manner.

    Essential

    You will need excellent time management and multi-tasking skills, as you will be welcoming students while thinking several steps ahead and keeping abreast of any delays or cancellations which may affect your schedule for the day. We also look for staff who can take a flexible approach, remaining calm and level-headed while projecting a welcoming, reassuring image to our students who are arriving.

  • Remuneration: Paid weekly, one week in arrears. The weekly rate received for Transfer Teams is £560 PLUS any accrued holiday to be paid at the end of contract)
