Full Job Description

Reeds Solicitors LLP are a successful and established legal practice, and we pride ourselves on excellence. We have an exciting opportunity for a proactive Trainee Solicitor to join our busy Reading department.

As a Trainee you will assist solicitors and litigators in preparing cases ready for court. The Trainee will work within our busy Crime Department, providing assistance to all team members, as well as gaining experience at the Police Station, Magistrates Court and litigating Crown Court matters. The candidate will receive outstanding training setting them up to becoming a superb Solicitor on qualification.

Please note that the training contract is subject to successfully completing your 3-month probationary period, and we will apply for that time as part of your qualifying work experience.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • To ensure that the firm's high client care standard is maintained by responding to clients and enquiries proactively and appropriately.

  • Take clients instructions, prepare statements and other legal documents under supervision.

  • Draft correspondence to clients and third parties under supervision.

  • Prepare cases and files for court hearings.

  • Work with Barristers in preparation of Crown Court cases.

  • Effectively manage time ensuring tight deadlines are met.

  • Undertake tasks to develop and increase fee earning.

    Key Requirements:

  • Must have a legal qualification such as LPC, ILEX (either completed in part or full), or be qualifying via the SQE route.

  • Good understanding of client care requirements.

  • Must be proactive and apply a consistent attention to detail.

  • Good application of common sense.

  • Ideally have experience of handling own caseload.

  • Excellent time management and organisation skills.

  • Good team work ethics.

  • A desire to learn and improve.

  • Willingness to undertake their own advocacy in due course.

  • Good communicator in both written and spoken English.

  • Must be IT literate and be willing to learn.

  • Have a driving licence, or ability to travel.
