Full Job Description

Promote and provide therapeutic experiences which strictly adhere to and apply the 6 principles of the Forest School ethos.

Reflect on your own practice and undertake continued professional development.

Assist in running of Forest School sessions for a maximum of 12 children per day.

Take responsibility for site set up, preparation of equipment and resources.

Shared responsibility for risk assessments being carried out prior to each session on site.

Monitor the impact of Forest School on children's social, emotional and mental wellbeing through photographic observation.

Ensure the Health and Safety of all children attending every session.

Responsibility for clear down, pack up and complete ending to a session.

As part of a team, support the logistics and planning of a growing company

Contribute your own skills and abilities as under leader's discretion.

Responsibilities Of All Compass Crew

Maintain an awareness of own and others health and safety and comply with Compass' health and safety procedures.

Adhere to the Compass Mission, Values, Policies and Procedures.

Comply with all relevant Compass safeguarding policies.

A commitment to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people.

Attend staff training and meetings.

Must have at least 2 years' experience of delivering outdoor experiences or working with children.

Must be a cheerleader at heart but a drill sergeant in execution.

Must love people.

Must be comfortable giving muddy high fives.

Must feel accomplished exceeding their step count by 5,000 a session.

Must be radically transparent. Always.

Must complete the Level 3 Forest School Leader certificate within 18 months of starting.

Hours are 09:00-16:00 ; Tuesday to Friday. Touch of admin on Monday's (sometimes)., Your attitude and behaviour

  • Excellent attention to detail and observation skills.

  • Strong verbal and non verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work well under pressure and work to deadlines.

  • Building strong rapport with the children in a warm and caring manner; whilst maintaining firm boundaries and our safeguarding policies.

  • A real passion for nature free play and engaging children with the outdoors.

  • Enthusiasm for creating new and exciting learning environments.

  • Commitment to own personal development and progression.

  • Strong relationship building skills, with experience of doing this.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes, be flexible and use initiative.

  • Brilliant teamwork and ability to work effectively in a small crew.


  • Your knowledge
  • Understanding of 'School Refusal' and those 'Out Of School'.

  • Understanding of Alternative Education.

  • Some understanding of the therapeutic education.

  • Understanding of SEND.

  • Understanding of safeguarding procedures.

  • Understanding of health and safety requirements., Minimum Level 3 childcare qualification or equivalent with a minimum of 2 years working within a childcare setting or delivering outdoor experiences.

  • Experience working with 2- 12 year olds.

  • Some experience of working with children with special educational needs.

  • Full clean UK driver's license.

    Ability to play an instrument (guitar/drums/flute)

    Interest in crafts (ceramics, weaving, metalwork, woodwork)

    Ability in the arts (dance/drama/story-telling),
  • GCSE or equivalent (preferred)

    You are interested only in yourself.
