Full Job Description

You will be supporting the Paper Team in developing and executing innovative speculative strategies in Shell Trading for crude, with a clear focus on waterborne benchmarks. The team also manages the following books:

  • Brent/Dated book, which focuses on the Brent complex in Europe

  • Dubai/Murban book, which focuses on Eastern benchmark in Asia

  • Systematic book, which focuses on systematic strategies across the barrels

  • Physical book, which focuses on BFOET and Midland

    To succeed in this role, you should be an independent thinker and strong team player, pro-active, inquisitive, creative in finding alternative solutions but also with a critical eye for detail.


  • We would also like to see the following reflected in your professional experience:
  • Build and drive the continuous development of oil market models

  • Develop the crude analytics infrastructure (Excel/Python/SQL/Power BI) improving forecasting capabilities - previous coding experience is a must.

  • A quantitative approach to problem solving and attention to details.

  • Research driven mindset with creative abilities in order to transform our understanding of market fundamentals

  • Active engagement with stakeholders across multiple business lines in disperse geographies to understand specific needs and appropriate deliverables.

    Europe/East/Derivatives (EED) Crude Oil Business is looking for a Trading Market Analyst to join the Crude Trading Analyst team in London, that is part of the Crude Paper Trading Desk. The Analysis Team is composed of 4 full time analysts, working between London, Rotterdam, and Singapore.


  • The workload of the team is split around the following tasks:
  • Waterborne S&D, split between Europe and Asia

  • Micro balances, centered around Brent and Dubai complexes

  • Crude valuation in key demand centers (NWE, MED, East)

  • Ad-hoc research, reflecting the market developments that may not be repeatable
