Full Job Description

We are looking for a Technical Specialist to join the Smart Technology Technical Team to support our Electrical and Telecommunications labs and users.
The ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, a passion for educating and supporting students with their projects is a key part of the role. The ideal candidate will have an excellent aptitude for problem solving, is able draw upon a wide range of electrical engineering experience and has a willingness to learn and pick up new skills.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong technical background in Analogue and Digital Electronics, Embedded Systems, Telecommunications, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics and Automation. Proficiency in a variety of engineering software and tools is essential, as is the ability to prepare and manage laboratory settings efficiently. A commitment to health and safety standards, experience in component supply management, and excellent communication skills are required, facilitating effective support and guidance to students and staff in a dynamic academic environment.
Main Responsibilities
o To provide effective high-level, specialist technical instruction, support and advice to staff and students in the areas of electrical, electronics, telecommunication and robotics.
o To work independently and/or alongside other colleagues in delivering detailed inductions, core and advancedskills sessions and to provide superb student supervision and guidance.
o To provide specialist advice and guidance in the setting up of labs, workshops and studios for timetabled teaching sessions, open access, research, open days, Schools and College events.
o To undertake an ongoing informal assessment of student competence and the effectiveness of skills instruction delivery techniques, including verification of student understanding and attendance.
o To undertake routine maintenance, calibration, configuration and operation of specialist and non-specialist technical equipment.
