Full Job Description

The research-intensive Department of Engineering wish to recruit a Technical Analyst who will be based at the Whittle Laboratory in West Cambridge. The research carried out in the Department is critically dependent upon the effective delivery of IT services in order to fulfil its academic mission. This new Technical Analyst role has been created to closely align with the design and delivery of services to enable the Department's pursuit of its research goals of zero-emissions research, whilst, at the same time, providing modelling, software development and technical knowledge in key areas of specialism to ensure that core infrastructure services are able to keep pace with the ever-increasing demands of a fast-moving department in a constantly innovating IT context.

To assist the Department in achieving its objectives and goals, you will have responsibility for developing and researching outputs and projects for research groups in academia and industry to support the effective delivery of research activity, while also contributing to external reports and grant proposals under the supervision of your line manager.

Additionally, you will be expected to provide high level advice to internal and external stakeholders and group leaders (PIs) on the development of future research projects and will be responsible for small project budgets relating to IT, software support and travel expenses.

You will hold a first degree or Masters in a scientific discipline in engineering and have software skills in modelling specialist areas such as UI/UX, Python, MATLAB and Excel VBA. You will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to demonstrate that you are a team player as well as having the ability to work independently. You will have previous research experience as well as analysis experience and expertise and experience in working with technical and economic modelling is also required.
