Full Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic, engaging and creative Teacher of English. You will have experience in teaching students of all abilities to reach their academic potential and strive to help every individual achieve their best.

The English department comprises 6 full time teaching staff with English tutors providing small group tutoring for intervention. The English Department is tight-knit and effective, with high expectations for our students. We are a successful department and pride ourselves on our bespoke and carefully constructed curriculum that is designed to engage and challenge our students.

St Augustine Academy is a non-selective 11-16 school in Maidstone, Kent which benefits from excellent resources and an exciting and vibrant learning environment.

Our Academy has a calm, purposeful atmosphere. We strive to broaden horizons and challenge our students to achieve their potential. We offer a rigorous academic curriculum, a strong behaviour policy and a wide ranging enrichment programme.

The Academy believes in offering a broad and balanced curriculum which includes a comprehensive Enrichment Program where students have the opportunity to choose an activity to further their personal interests. All staff are expected to offer an activity. This role will also include being responsible for the pastoral care of a Mentor group and could include possible pastoral responsibilities for the right candidate.

We are committed to continual CPD and a positive work life balance for staff. We offer additional training days, support staff to complete additional qualifications and remove unnecessary workload. Staff are fully involved in developing Academy policies.

This vacancy is suitable for NQT Graduates

We have a fair and supportive performance management process which allows for enhanced pay progression.

We are one of six Academies which make up the Woodard Academies Trust (WAT). WAT is part of the Woodard family of schools. Created by founder Nathaniel Woodard in 1848, Woodard is the largest group of independent Church of England schools in England and Wales. Woodard Academies Trust and Woodard Schools share a common ethos and vision: to inspire young people to make a difference and demonstrate courage, compassion and community.

Our ethos reflects our deep commitment to delivering an outstanding education to the students we teach. We prioritise inclusion and value individuals, and excel in delivering pastoral care and personalised learning paths for our students. Our aim is to offer students not only a first-class education, but also to teach them life skills that will provide benefits beyond their time with us. We believe that our academies should enrich the communities they serve and play an active role in their development.

Candidates applying must be eligible to work in the UK.

Applications will be considered as they are received. Suitable candidates may be interviewed before the closing date and St Augustine Academy reserves the right to withdraw the position if an early appointment is made.
