Looking for a challenging yet rewarding job? Sussex Estates and Facilities (SEF) is hiring for the position of Porter/Handyperson at the University of Sussex. As a Porter/Handyperson, you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service to students, visitors and colleagues, carrying out maintenance tasks, and offering assistance to our residents and visitors., As a Porter/Handyperson, your main duties will include providing general maintenance and portering services, providing janitorial and cleaning services in the residences, carrying out daily litter picking and external cleaning, and participating in compliance with the requirements of Health & Safety statutes, regulations, guidance, and best practice. You will also be responsible for carrying out routine pre-planned maintenance test and compliance activities.

We are looking for someone who is driven to providing excellent customer service, has experience in working in a public-facing setting, and has basic IT skills or a willingness to learn new skills. The ideal candidate will have experience in working with a wide range of people from different backgrounds, be able to work positively and collaboratively in a team, possess good record-keeping skills, have a conscientious approach to work, and be pro-active and diligent., The ideal candidate will have a full and valid driving licence, previous experience in maintenance and DIY, previous experience using maintenance related tools, be able to participate in effective team working and have excellent communication skills with a wide variety of people, be flexible and motivated, have a responsible approach, tact, flexibility and the ability to deal with young people and the general public, have good interpersonal skills including the ability to deal tactfully with people, be able to work additional hours when required, be able to safely move loads of up to 15 kg according to H&S guidelines, and be able to work independently using their initiative, managing workloads and priorities.
