Full Job Description

  • As a key member of the Football program, plan, deliver, and review physical development (on-pitch, off-pitch, Return to Play) on a whole-squad and individual player basis as needed.

  • With direction from the Head of Football, ensure the planning and implementation of a physical conditioning programme

  • Lead the planning, delivery, and reporting of physical profiling

  • Work in partnership with the Head of Football to ensure a collaborative approach to session design and delivery that achieves both technical/tactical and physical outcomes.

  • Support matchday physical performance support including performance preparation, nutrition provision, and supporting the coaching team.

  • Work closely the Head of Football to ensure players are transitioning into the next phase with the appropriate level of physical capabilities to thrive within that programme.

  • Be an ambassador for the physical development team, by playing a role in improving department philosophies, systems, and processes. Work collaboratively with staff to develop ideas to contribute to department alignment, best practices, and iterative improvement.

  • Minimize players' time loss to injury (soft tissue/non-contact)

  • Physical development support that positively impacts player education and performance


  • Macro / Annual
  • An annual plan created around LTAD in line with the department philosophy

  • Physical profiling process planned and completed a minimum of 2 times per year as directed by the Head of Football

  • Annual review of age group physical development progress presented to key stakeholders


  • Meso / 8 Weekly Blocks
  • Mesocycle plan created to support physical development

  • Plan, deliver, record, reflect on, and communicate physical profiling for the Head of Football

  • Create Individual plans as necessary relating to department philosophy


  • Micro / Weekly
  • Plan, deliver, record, and reflect on the physical performance program.

  • Plan, deliver, record, and reflect on squad and individual sessions/programs inline with the physical performance programme

  • Recorded off-field gym-based sessions

  • Record and track Training load

    Education/qualifications/experience

  • To engage in the necessary CPD and professional qualifications to further your expertise (ensuring all Premier League and FA stipulations are adhered to).

  • BSc In a relevant field (Minimum requirement = 2.2 or better)

  • Demonstrable experience working with athletes in Football

  • Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Long-term Athletic Development in Football


  • Skills and abilities
  • Perform duties with due regard to policies and procedures and legislative requirements at all times

  • Ensure working practices are compliant with relevant legislation and data protection legislation and/or general data protection regulations (GDPR) requirements

  • The ability to deliver gym and pitch-based physical development sessions

  • Undergraduate degree in Sport & Exercise science or related field

  • Evidence of coaching strength & conditioning in either a part time or full-time role over the last two years.

  • Possessing an MSc and having experience in strength and conditioning within Rugby will be a significant advantage.

  • Excellent communication skills with people of all levels as well as interpersonal skills & able to problem solve with/between students;

  • Flexible and adaptable approach to working hours

  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently

  • Ability to deal well with pressure and multi - task

  • Full Drivers license essential and willing to drive mini bus

    Tenure of post: Permanent, All year Round


  • Hours of work: 18.5 hours per week

    Salary: £11, 054.50 per annum

    Annual leave: 20 days annual leave per leave year (1 September to 31 August), plus 8 bank holidays and up to 4 College Closure days.

    Pension: Local Government Pension Scheme (optional). This is an employee

    and employer contributory pension scheme.
