Full Job Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral cardiovascular physiologist position based at the William Harvey Research Institute in Charterhouse Square based in the Eaton laboratory. This is a permanent position with an indefinite contract subject to successful completion of the probationary period. The appointee will undertake research projects of their own as well as provide broad support for the laboratories' extensive studies investigating the role of oxidants in cardiovascular health and disease.

The successful candidate will be an expert in cardiovascular physiology with hands on practical experience and strong data analysis skills. These will be used to investigate how signaling pathways are altered in and contribute to diseases of the circulatory system and heart. The successful candidate will have a Home Office personal licence, perhaps with Module 5 training, and extensive experience of transgenic mouse colony management. Broad experience of ex vivo (e.g., isolated heart perfusion, arterial myography) and in vivo (blood pressure radiotelemetry, echocardiography) cardiovascular physiology is essential. Equally important is hands-on experience of in vivo models of disease-related conditions such as hypertension, ischemia and reperfusion, infarction, sepsis, pulmonary hypertension, or heart failure. Additional, complementary skills in protein biochemistry, molecular biology and cell biology would be welcomed. The successful candidate requires a PhD degree in a
biological or medical sciences discipline, with a good track record in publishing their work in leading journals using some of the methods and models described above.

The position is based in the William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI) located in in the City of London. The WHRI has three core strategic themes: Cardiovascular, Inflammation and Endocrinology with a mix of basic scientists and clinicians benefiting from strong links with Barts Health NHS Trust.
