Full Job Description

East Sussex School Health Service are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated, Specialist Community Public Health Nurses (School Nurse or Health Visitor) wishing to develop their knowledge and skills working with 5-19 yr olds, tojoin skill-mix team that has a diverse range of knowledge and skills. Applications from newly qualified SCPHNs are welcomed.

  • A recruitment and retention premium of £3,500 pro rata per annum will be applied to this post for 3 years subject to annual review


  • As a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) you can make a real difference to children, families andcommunities, in a variety of community settings. You will play a fundamental role in the development of the Healthy Child Programme, promoting child development, safeguarding children, preventing social exclusion and deprivation and tackling important public health issues.

    A key element of the East Sussex School Health service is our mental health support offer for young people which is delivered by our mental health practitioners. If, as a SCPHN, you have a special interest in mental health you will be supported to develop your skills and support this workstream.

    Every day working as a SCPHN is different, including identifying need, planning and implementing interventions as well as working with a range of local children's agencies and professionals.

    We have a hybrid working model ensuring that we provide care to children and young people in the right place at the right time. This will include schools, clinics, home and virtually.

    Our SHOP is the front door to the service where all referrals and enquiries are triaged, assessed and next steps planned all SCPHNs are required to support SHOP.

  • A SCPHN qualification (SN or HV wishing to develop their knowledge and skills working with 5-19 yr olds)

  • Flexible approach to meet the needs of the service.

  • Be an effective communicator on all levels, with the ability to provide advice and resolve issues.

  • Be able to work under pressure and to deadlines.

  • Be organised and meticulous, with an eye for detail.

  • I.T literate.

  • Car owner/driver essential, subject to the provisions of the Equality Act (2010), as driving around the county will be require
