Full Job Description

The SMS / Health and Safety Advisor will be working with the Head of safety Management to support the continuous development of the SMS/HSE function and is a full time, permanent position located at our Manchester Hangar.,

  • Supports and advise STS Aviation Services UK Ltd. on Health and Safety at all of its UK locations.

  • Monitor standards, processes, communications, training, and systems to ensure all responsibilities associated with SMS/Health and Safety within STS Aviation Services UK Ltd. are adhered to.

  • Ensure a safe workplace environment without risk to health.

  • Work with Head of Safety Management to ensure the Company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety, and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting.

  • Work with Managers to complete regular reviews of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations.

  • Support with ensuring that all events are documented, investigated, and recommended improvements implemented.

  • Be a visible and approachable presence on the shop floor, maintaining staff and management engagement.

  • Provide expert SMS/H&S advice to staff and managers in line with company procedures. Support with ensuring that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed, and employees are aware of their responsibilities.

  • Assist in the development of Health & Safety policies, systems of work and procedures.

  • Ensure full and accurate health and safety and training records are maintained.

  • Keep up to date with all aspects of relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business.

  • Participate in monthly meetings when required to report on relevant health & safety matters for STS Aviation Services UK Ltd.

    First Aid at Work certificate

  • NEBOSH National General Certificate or IEMA Foundation certificate in Environmental Management or working towards

  • Handling of H&S Investigations

  • Knowledge of SMS within an MRO environment.

  • Knowledge and experience of using 5S methodology.

  • Confidential in all matters.

  • Professional approach, coupled with strong interpersonal skills.

  • Verbal, written communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to work on own initiative. Ability to work in, and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.

  • Ability to work co-operatively with others to complete tasks and implement process improvements.

  • Gathering, analysing, and reporting on key SMS/H&S data/statistics.
