We have a fantastic opportunity at our Nestlé Dalston site; we are looking for a SHE Advisor to join the team to provide specialist Environmental support to the factory, with additional opportunity to extend into Safety and Health.

Nestlé's Dalston Factory in Cumbria is the European Centre for cappuccino and creamers producing a range of beverage products. These are produced through a highly automated PLC controlled process plant and automated filling and packing lines. It is continually developing and expanding leading brands such as Nescafé, Aero Hot Chocolate and Coffee-mate. The factory is moving forward with continuous improvement principles and actively developing Lean/TPM processes so it's an exciting time to be involved.

Manufacturing in Nestlé is all about ensuring the consumer receives a perfect quality product, at the right time whilst ensuring the safety of all our employees in the factory. This role is essential in delivering the health, safety and environment objectives at our Dalston Factory.

A day in the life of…a SHE Advisor (Environmental Specialist)

The SHE Advisor will be responsible for supporting the SHE Manager in all aspects of health, safety and environment across site, with key focus on environmental management.

The key responsibilities will include:

  • Support the development and implementation of the Factory's SHE OMP activities with emphasis on ensuring environmental compliance and driving sustainability best practice.

  • Support the site to ensure environmental compliance and management of environmental permits and consents.

  • Implement & develop site initiatives leading to continuous improvement in SHE performance in line with the Nestlé Continuous Excellence mind-set of zero accidents, zero harm and zero incidents.

  • Manage environmental reporting as required by Nestlé internal reporting standards

  • Manage environmental reporting requirements to external agencies including the Environment Agency and maintain the working relationship with agencies and residents.

  • Work closely with our on-site waste management team to ensure compliance and drive waste improvement opportunities.

  • Help provide guidance on the correct behaviours that are required to be embedded on the site to support the zero-incident mind set.

  • Support the maintenance of the factory SHE Management systems including maintaining ISO14001, ISO50001 and OHSAS450001 certification.

  • Support incident investigations & reporting as required helping to provide root cause analysis and corrective actions.

  • Conduct risk assessments and help to build the competence within the operational teams and SHE champions.

  • Conduct training sessions on SHE related topics

  • Complete internal audits of applicable Nestlé standards and factory procedures.

  • Review and update site procedures.

  • Be a member of the energy management team to ensure delivery and reporting of the required energy KPIs

  • Support and challenge colleagues to maintain all company standards providing coaching on all aspects of SHE and providing guidance during operational review meetings in each operational area.

  • Deputise for the SHE Manager during any absences.

    You will be a team player with a real passion for safety and continuous improvement. We are looking for someone that truly enjoys coaching and developing others to support health, safety and environmental improvements throughout the factory.


  • The person that is successful in this role will demonstrate a passion and drive for improvement in SHE in all aspects of our operations. This would ideally include practical experience in operating environmental management systems, working with regulators and driving environmental improvements.,
  • Required - NEBOSH Specialist Diploma in Environmental Management (DipEM), educated in an environmental degree or similar

  • Desirable - Associate member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA).

  • Desirable - Qualification in health & Safety e.g. NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent

    Salary: £40,000 - £45,000 + potential bonus + other fantastic benefits
