Full Job Description

Professional responsibilities- To maintain registration and all professional and personal developmentrequirements.-To support and contribute towards the organisations clinical governancesystems, supporting quality standards and work towards the continuousimprovement in clinical and service quality.- To observe confidentiality in all matters relating to service users and staff.-To adhere to trust policies and procedures.-To participate in clinical and managerial supervision as per trust policy. -To observe and practice in accordance with adult safeguarding guidelines andreport as appropriate in line with policy and process.Clinical Responsibilities- Senior Staff Nurse in older adult inpatient wards providing enhanced knowledgeand skills, linking with the matron agenda, community specialist nurses andspecific care pathways.-To supervise junior nursing staff, supporting day-to-day practice and ongoingdevelopment-To provide and contribute to the effective assessment of patients and lead
thenursing element of the development of multi-disciplinary care plans-To ensure that positive risk management, patient safety and reduction of harm isat the centre of ward nursing practice.-To both be Named Nurse/Key worker for an identified cohort of patients andsupport junior staff in their role, specifically when aligned to complex needs,specialist knowledge and multi-agency working.-To support the development, implementation and monitoring of standards, bothlocally defined and nationally prescribed.-To support the development, implementation and review of effective policies andprocedures.-To recieve lessons learned and contribute to the development andimplementation of action plans.-To ensure the clinical environment being conducive to learning for junior staff,student nurses and the wider MDT.-To provide educational material for staff, service users, family members andother professional groups as required-To have a contemporary working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983 andits
applications in practice, the rights of patients and any future amendments.- To deliver clinical supervision and ensure a commitment to their own supervisionrequirements as per policy.- To be responsible for supporting the maintenance of clinical standards in theward environment and across the division, working closely with Older AdultMatrons- Work with the ward managers to ensure equitable use of all resources to supportan effective service.- To support the instigation and continuation of CQC standards, infection controlstandards, National patient safety standards and standards for better health.Educational and Research responsibilities-Develop and implement internal learning processes to evaluate and monitor theassessment process.-To participate on relevant research projects relating to the service-To ensure clinical practice develops through the critical analysis and evaluation ofevidence based research findings-To take opportunities to develop specialist knowledge in line with the
rolerequirements, personal development conversations and needs of the service.Management responsibilities- To attend relevant steering groups and forums appropriate to the development ofthe Inpatient Services.- To be consistent and active in improving and evaluating the effectiveness of theservice through feedback from service users.- To conduct appraisals and Supervision within the team, being aware of theparticular developing needs of staff-To assist in the recruitment and selection of staff.Communication-To be responsible for promoting the service within BCHFT and social careeconomy and wider partnership.- Identify and mitigate any barriers to effective communication.- To promote liaison and inter agency working and collaboration- To be support the development and maintenance of effective lines ofcommunication on complex matters, issues and ideas, between staff, serviceusers and carers.- To represent the team at appropriate meetings and ensure information iscascaded to
the team.Leadership Skills- To promote the ethos of a flexible service, that places service users and theirfamily at the centre of their care- To promote the values and ethos of the service in line with the principles and thepolicy implementation guidelines.- To promote equity and equality in accessibility to the service.- To undertake any other duties of a similar nature consistent with theresponsibilities of this post in order to provide a quality inpatient service.
