Full Job Description

ShareAction is recruiting for a Senior Research Officer (SRO) to join the LIPH Programme and help support the delivery of our broad portfolio of work. The focus will primarily be on our consumer health campaign (LIPH's most developed campaign focused on driving more responsible practice in the food industry) but will also support other workstreams, including community health (a newer campaign focused on improving air quality) and driving up investor standards on health. You will ensure our work is founded on robust evidence by taking the latest information and analysis into account and helping to produce credible and compelling outputs across the programme., You will work on the following key areas:

  • Consumer health, primarily focusing on the Healthy Markets Initiative.

  • Community health, focusing on our Air Quality initiative.

  • Investor standards, focusing on our efforts to improve investor standards on health.

  • Maintain and, where applicable, improve our evidence-based approach across all workstreams.


  • Key activities across these areas of work will include:

    Content production
  • Writing, editing and/or fact-checking content through different channels, including investor briefings, presentations, case studies, reports and social media content.

  • With support from your line manager, you will be developing briefs for outsourced research-focused deliverables that the LIPH team may need and, at times, acting as the lead ShareAction contact for our contractors.


  • Research and analysis
  • Conducting mainly secondary research and in some cases, primary through investor interviews, engagements with civil society groups and/or coalitions, company analysis etc.

  • Analysing and reporting on research data, and clearly presenting key themes and findings.

  • Keeping up to date with the latest industry trends and issues relating to the LIPH programme.


  • Monitoring and evaluation
  • With support from your team, you will be monitoring and reporting on the health-related practices and policies of companies.

  • Supporting the Senior Project Officer in collating metrics for funder/other reporting.


  • External engagement
  • With support from your team, you will be supporting external stakeholder meetings (e.g. contractors, research partners, investors or civil society groups).

  • Please note that as part of the induction process, you will be expected to attend the London office in person during your first week in post, to cover items including Health & Safety, IT set-up, Office Orientation and Team member introductions.

    The right candidate will be intellectually curious, adaptable, calm working in a fast-moving environment, and have strong attention to detail.   • Knowledge or interest in the commercial determinants of health, specifically around poor nutrition and air pollution.

  • A understanding or willingness to learn about sustainability issues, specifically relating to health.

  • A broad understanding or willingness to learn about the investment system and how sustainability issues relate to investors and policy makers.

  • Knowledge of or interest in monitoring and evaluation practices.

  • A keen interest in driving the finance sector to better serve people and the planet., Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail and a proven ability to conduct high quality research (ideally comfortable working with qualitative and/or quantitative data in Excel).

  • Ability to synthesise and present complex information in a compelling way for different audiences to influence and persuade.

  • Strong communication skills in written and spoken English.

  • Excellent organisational skills, and a proven ability to manage competing demands while still meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to work independently and with others to achieve shared aims.

  • A high degree of familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Management: experience working with a wide range of research activities and outputs across multiple projects (with support from programme leads).

  • Analysis and innovation: experience analysing complex information and developing useful analyses that inform and enhance work outputs.

  • Collaboration: experience working closely with others across different workstreams/ teams internally and with external partners to delivery on a common goal.

  • Communication: experience presenting persuasive ideas in written and verbal form, bringing unique expertise and technical knowledge to discussions with internal and external stakeholders.

We want to make health a central part of all investors' decision-making processes, and create a healthier and more equal society., ShareAction's London office is based in vibrant Aldgate and a short walk from Aldgate East underground. Remote working will remain the norm for many ShareAction staff, with office space available as described in London for those who wish to use it.
