Job Description Summary

We have a great opportunity for a Senior QA level Engineer to join our NPI (New Product Introduction) team in Cheltenham.

In this role you will be accountable for functional, business, and broad company objectives and integrate and develop processes and plans that meet business needs across the organization, manage complex issues within functional area(s) of expertise, be involved in long-term planning, and contribute to the overall business strategy.

The Senior QA Engineer supports NPI Engineering projects by assuring that the projects follow their agreed and approved engineering plans.
As the eyes and ears of the customer, Senior QA Engineer, in conjunction with the project, develops the quality assurance plan, and then, by means of audits and reviews, helps the project demonstrate compliance as they deliver for their customers in accordance with customer requirements and the applicable regulatory standards.
Committed to continuous improvement, the Development Quality Department (DQA) requires its quality engineers to identify, develop, plan, and execute on quality process improvement in support of Engineering projects.

Although this role doesnt have any direct reports, you will be involved in mentoring and coaching team members and relevant stakeholders.

Job Description

  • Responsible for ensuring quality and regulatory compliance in accordance with documented procedures for all aspects of functional responsibility.

  • Develop and maintain the Project Specific Quality Assurance Plan against an agreed Basis of Estimate (BoE) and identify resource requirements for quality assurance tasks.


  • Monitor and control the DQA budget against the agreed BoE and Project Specific Quality Assurance Plan informing project of budgetary spend against achievements.

  • Conduct timely DQA activities as detailed within the Project Specific Quality Assurance Plan, including auditing, document reviews, test oversight, attending reviews etc, raising DQA records and process Non-Compliance (NCs) where and when appropriate. Provide status reporting to project and the DQA team.

  • Establish and maintain communication with the engineering project team, project management and customer to ensure the voice of DQA is heard, while resolving any DQA issues in a timely manner.

  • Broadening knowledge of standards, practices and procedures in own discipline to execute functional policy/strategy; still developing functional knowledge and skills.

  • Leads the team and works well with cross functional teams within in the wider organisation.

  • Has autonomy to plan and manage DQA activities and make decisions within a defined framework while highlighting any need for assistance as and when required. Resolves issues in situations that require good knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consults more senior team members for issues outside of defined policy/parameters.

  • Develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Explains DQA activities and responsibilities to others.

  • Responsible for mentoring and coaching team members.

  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of process effectiveness and efficiency.

  • Manages multiple DQA team members in their day-to-day activities and strategise DQA team development.

  • Supports continuous product and process improvement through detailed failure analysis for non-conformance's, and investigates, develops and implements effective and compliant solutions for product or process corrections, retrospective and remediation action plans, and for corrective and preventive actions.

  • Ensures process compliance through the development of simple yet comprehensive procedures, work instructions, flowcharts, forms, templates, checklists, worksheets, and other product and process related documentation.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead, acknowledge, develop, communicate & implement a strategy to ensure compliance.

  • Ensure review of processes, procedures, quality objectives, QMS, and tools.

  • Evaluate and provide quality metrics to the project team and stakeholders.


  • Required Qualifications
  • Qualified to degree level in an engineering discipline or similar level of knowledge and experience in a highly regulated business sector environment.

  • Ability to document, plan, market and execute program within an agreed budget and timescales.

  • Proven experience within Quality.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.

  • Ability to act as a change agent.

  • Demonstrate ability to influence others and willingness to explain processes/procedures to others.

  • Working knowledge with aerospace standards such as DO-178B, DO-254, ARP4754 and/or equivalents.
