SENIOR ESTIMATOR

Who we are: - based in Hingham, A C Bacon Engineering Ltd are a leading Norfolk based manufacturer specialising in steel structures and steel frames for agricultural, commercial, and industrial buildings, from design through to manufacture, delivery, and installation. As part of our dedication and commitment to our customers we are also able to supply and install wall and roof cladding, roller shutter doors, personnel doors, metal decking, PCC planks and stairs, PCC grain walling and concrete pad foundations. A C Bacon Engineering Ltd have extensive in-house production facilities at its headquarters in Hingham, to provide the highest quality product and experience for its customers. A C Bacon Engineering Ltd are also proud holders of the Royal Warrant of Appointment as a tradesman to The Queen for the manufacture of steel-framed buildings.

The role: we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Estimator to join our commercial team. As a Senior Estimator you will play a vital role in the day-to-day running of the estimating department, ensuring that it runs smoothly with deadlines met in line with our clients’ expectations and company objectives. You will use your industry experience and knowledge to provide detailed cost estimates, including budget cost estimates, exploring all commercial opportunities to their fullest potential.

The Responsibilities of the role: the main responsibilities of the role will include, but not necessarily be limited to: -

Undertake detailed reviews of client ITTs to accurately identifying the scope of works, including an assessment of the Company’s ability to tender for such, based upon its operational capabilities and accreditations.

To review and prioritise workflow to ensure tender return date compliance.

Maintain accurate and concise records for all tender enquiries and ITT reviews.

Provide and maintain clear and accurate sales data for weekly review with senior management. This will include quotation/sales/client information, top opportunities, and on-going sales leads.

Undertake detailed and accurate ‘take-offs’ from the clients ITT information and drawings, using the Company’s bespoke software.

Calculate and completed B of Q’s where required.

Acquire quotations for all specialist ‘buy-out’ items, obtaining a choice of competitive and comparable bids, with thorough review and examination of all data pertaining to such, with appropriate clarification presented upstream.

Engage with the professional design team to obtain clear and efficient tender structural designs (where applicable) ensuring the distribution of all relevant criteria, allowing the presentation of a fully compliant bid.

Prepare and submit detailed and bona fide quotations with all relevant and applicable qualifications, terms, and conditions.

Conduct thorough reviews of cost estimates, challenging proposals, and norms as part of the review process.

Provide an effective follow-up service to submitted quotations, to maximise commercial opportunity.

To seek opportunity and offer Value Engineering options to our clients, again, to further the Company’s commercial opportunity.

To continue to foster and complement our current client relationships and seek new opportunities.

At point of contract award provide a detailed and effective internal ‘project launch’.

To provide mentoring, support, and development to all Trainee Estimators and other staff members.

To always promote the Company’s core values in a professional and courteous manner.

Attend site meetings as, and when, required.

Provide all financial reporting to senior management as requested / required.

What you will need: the successful candidate will have previous experience and a proven track record within the structural steelwork industry, along with excellent communication, analytical, oral and report writing skills. The ability to work accurately, collaboratively, under pressure, and to strict deadlines whilst managing multiple projects simultaneously will be essential.
