Full Job Description

The Transport for London (TfL) Power Engineering Team plays a critical role in maintaining, renewing, upgrading, and extending the Power Systems across London Underground, DLR, Trams, London Overground, and the Elizabeth Line. As a Senior DC Traction Power Engineer, you'll contribute to shaping the future of TfL's Power Networks. Your impact will be felt across London, as your work will connect communities, create opportunities, and ensure sustainability.,

  • Produce, check, and review designs for DC Traction Systems.

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure successful delivery of complex engineering projects.

  • Support and guide Engineers and non-technical stakeholders across a diverse range of projects.

    Essential:

  • BEng/MEng Degree in Electrical (or related) Engineering or HNC/HND with extensive work experience.

  • Extensive DC Traction and ETE design experience (feasibility, concept, and detailed design).

  • Knowledge of interfaces with other engineering disciplines.

  • Knowledge of national and international standards.

  • Able to understand and evaluate data using software such as Microsoft Excel.

  • Able to communicate both orally and written with a variety of audiences.

  • Able to write technical reports in a clear and succinct style.


  • Desirable:
  • Knowledge of Railway DC Traction protection.

  • Knowledge of Railway Earthing and Bonding.

  • Knowledge of Substation Plant and Equipment.

  • Experience in Installation and Commissioning of DC Traction equipment.

  • Knowledge of Operations and Maintenance requirements for DC Traction systems.

  • Knowledge of engineering safety management and its application within the railway environment.

  • Knowledge of traction Power System (MTS) modelling.

  • Able to use CAD software (e.g MicroStation, AutoCAD) to produce engineering drawings.

  • Chartered Engineer or working towards it.
