Full Job Description

The Senior Emergency Practitioner will be responsible to the Consultant Practitioner or their nominated deputy and assist with service delivery within the Emergency Department and Medical division. The role incorporates a 24-hour clinical care rota promoting safety and quality care to those who present to the Emergency Department. The post holder will be a role model and support direct clinical care by working as an automatous practitioner to patients who present with minor injuries and minor illness. The post holder is required to hold a professional registration with the NMC or HCPC and maintain standards in accordance.
The Senior Emergency Practitioner will assess, investigate, treat and either refer or discharge patients who present with minor injuries and illness across the age spans (adults and paediatrics). You will be expected to be able to use electronic patient records (Sunrise) and interpret investigations such as X-Rays and pathology results. You will be expected to perform a range of procedures inclusive of reduction of fracture/dislocations and close wounds with varied techniques., Work as an autonomous practitioner, in urgent and unscheduled care directing and delivering a patient focused service within Gloucester and Cheltenham EDs and the 'Nurse Led Service' at Cheltenham General Hospital at night.
- The A&E Emergency Practitioner within the ED and Urgent Care Centre will demonstrate advanced clinical expertise, levels of judgement and decision making in clinical care to independently provide a high standard of care for patients of all ages presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed unscheduled care needs.
- The Senior Emergency Practitioner is a clinical expert and accountable for the total episode of care of the patient including assessment, diagnosis, treatment/delegation and referral or discharge.
- The Senior Emergency Practitioner will act as the clinical lead professional to organise and manage the care of patients with minor injuries and illness. You will be required to support junior staff in the department with decision making and take accountability and provide clinical leadership to Cheltenham ED overnight.

The Senior Emergency Practitioner will be registered healthcare professional from a nursing, paramedic or physiotherapy background. They will hold experience and skills in minor injuries and or illness. They may be a prescriber or have the capability to use our extensive patient group directives.
