Full Job Description

As Senior DevOps Engineer you will work with a range of software development and integration tools to provide a seamless, efficient, and user-friendly customer experience at every touchpoint of the digital journey for staff and residents. You'll be responsible for planning and designing large data and software integrations enabling business systems to communicate and operate effectively.

What you'll be doing…

  • Operate as a Senior DevOps Engineer being comfortable working both application and server-side architecture.


  • Develop front-end and back-end components using modern programming languages and frameworks.


  • Lead on the development of user interface solutions aligned to the 'low-code/no code' strategy of the Councils.


  • Lead the integration of external/third-party APIs and services to enhance application functionality and data exchange.


  • Identify and troubleshoot software defects and performance issues that arise during the development, testing, and deployment phases.


  • Optimise applications for maximum speed and efficiency, ensuring a seamless user experience.


  • Lead on secure coding techniques to ensure that the councils are protected against software vulnerabilities and other forms of attack on their digital services., The Councils want to ensure all our employees have a safe comfortable place to work, ensuring that employees feel empowered to actively manage their own wellbeing both at work and at home.     A relevant degree or professional/vocational qualification in Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).


  • Ability to achieve results through managing others.


  • Proven ability of object-orientated programming in an Agile environment with significant knowledge and experience in the following languages and frameworks: ASP.NET Core, C#, VB.NET, MVC, Entity Framework Core, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery, Bootstrap, Dependency Injection, REST API, GIT, JSON, XML.


  • Able to support and re-develop legacy systems in a range of coding languages such as: Visual Basic, VB.Net, VB Script, ASP.Net, HTML, C#, JavaScript, CSS, XML and PHP.


  • Experience and working knowledge of Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment and Automation Tools.


  • Significant proven experience of developing and maintaining business systems, web applications, web forms and content management systems in a distributed environment that deliver business/customer benefits.


  • Experience of SQL and Oracle, including database design and maintenance, writing SQL scripts and stored procedures, utilising SQL server management tools.


  • Demonstrable experience of planning, designing and delivering solutions that provide excellent customer and user experience, working with customers from conception to completion through entire project lifecycle, interpreting business users requirements and creating clear technical specifications for development to achieve the required outcomes.


  • Experience of system integration design and development ensuring the end to end automation of customer transactions between digital services and line of business systems solutions through appropriate industry standard middleware.


  • Demonstrable experience of designing and developing transactional forms that deliver business/customer benefits.


  • Ability to deliver application support and development for a wide range of users and systems, preferably in a local government environment.


  • Excellent business data analysis and manipulation skills
