About the business unit
We help conceive, drive, and implement transport solutions for cities, regions, and asset owners/operators around the globe. From preparing the business case and advising on related issues - such as revenue, procurement, and environmental legislation - to delivering the completed infrastructure and helping maintain it. Our planning, engineering, environmental and management skills cover the whole project cycle. We play a major role in developing and delivering the Global Transport Sector Strategy., The Rail Division requires a senior contracts manager to engage in their commercial strategies, contract reviews, negotiations, delivery / execution and resolution of issues. With the change in our markets, the importance of robust and appropriate contractual terms which protect our interests are becoming increasingly important to our business. The role will be the focal point for commercial / contractual advice and best practice within the Division. The contracts manager will oversee all contractual elements required for successful project delivery within the Division. The contracts manager will draft, execute and oversee the operation of contracts within the division. The location of this position is flexible.
The contracts manager will lead and where appropriate support teams in contract negotiations; ensuring we secure the most favourable terms and conditions for the services being offered. The role will be to:

  • Undertake contract reviews in the early stages of an opportunity to help determine if the terms are or will be acceptable to the business

  • Identify where internal governance approvals are required and support the bid and project teams in securing these

  • Negotiate and agree advance forms of contract with key clients to assist in quick turn-around on significant project

  • Discuss, draft, review and negotiate contracts for the division, ensuring the best possible terms are achieved

  • Train and supervise team members to improve their contract knowledge and awareness

  • Work with delivery teams in negotiations and discussions with clients, e.g. providing advice and expertise for contract discussions, change control, claims and termination events

  • Review the Division's highest risk/value contracts to identify improvement opportunities, mitigate risk, and secure cost savings through enhanced contract management practices

  • Assist legal, technical, commercial and finance teams, as required

  • Supervise contract execution to ensure compliance with MM processes and procedures

  • Monitor the implementation and performance of signed contracts

    Proven experience in successful contract negotiations

  • Knowledge / experience of the operation of design consultants

  • Excellent knowledge of contracts including but not limited to: NEC3 & NEC4 PSC

  • Exceptional negotiation, persuasion and judgement skills

  • Excellent communication skills, written, verbal and presentation

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and strong business ethics


  • Desirable:
  • Design and build (D&B) / Contractor experience
