Full Job Description

The Semi Skilled Handy Person will report to the Utility Supervisor, this role has responsibility for the reliable and compliant operation of the site wide Building and Utility Services and equipment serving all areas of the European Knowledge Centre (EKC) facility at Hatfield.
The Buildings Fabrics Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, safety, and functionality of the site's infrastructure, including office environments, laboratories, and GMP production lines. Their primary responsibility is to oversee the maintenance, repair, and improvement of building fabrics to uphold regulatory compliance and operational efficiency.

  • Excellent verbal and written English skills.

  • Demonstrated experience in building maintenance or facilities management, preferably in a pharmaceutical or similar regulated industry.

  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills.

  • Relevant vocational qualifications in building maintenance, engineering, or related field.


  • Essential:
  • Demonstrated experience in diagnosing and repairing building fabric issues.

  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards related to building maintenance in pharmaceutical environments.

  • Proven ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.


  • Desirable:
  • Experience working with HVAC, plumbing, electrical and water systems.

  • Previous experience working in a GxP or other regulated although not essential, would be beneficial.

  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

  • Certifications in relevant trades (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical).
