Full Job Description

You will be highly organised, be comfortable working in a team as well as working on your own, have a flexible and cooperative approach to working, and possess the ability to mentor, motivate and inspire others. You will have excellent communication skills and will work closely on project design interacting with staff at all levels as well as externally with other University Departments. You will be required to liaise with members of the bioinformatics core facility in the analysis of datasets and communication of the results to facility users; experience with statistical or computational methods would be very desirable.

You will be expected to keep up to date with advances in proteomics, and write and/or contribute to the production of research papers when required.

Whilst we are primarily a research-service lab, you will work on technical development projects to benefit the facility and the Institute so this is a great opportunity for a talented individual to make a significant contribution to the science at CRUK CI.

Fixed-term: 18 months.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a security check.

The Proteomics facility focuses on the systematic study of proteins, particularly their structures, interactions and expression levels. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation for CRUK CI researchers requiring access to proteomics technology and expertise. We are enhancing our Proteomics facility and are now looking for a highly motivated Scientific Associate/Senior Scientific Associate who has significant experience of quantitative proteomics methods and applications.

The successful candidate will be joining us at an exciting time as we build on our current proteomics capabilities. You will provide leadership to the lab including project prioritisation, be able to troubleshoot challenging issues and escalate accordingly, and respond to requests from senior Institute or collaboration staff.

You will be hands-on helping to define and support diverse assays, as well as contributing to the development and implementation of novel/innovative methods. You will use your analytical skills to evaluate projects and feed back into method/study design. It is essential you have extensive hands on laboratory experience in mass spectrometry based proteomics. A PhD in a relevant subject or have equivalent experience is desirable. You will be able to help support and further develop the panel of existing assays as well as contribute and lead the development of novel workflows and MS-analyses.
