Full Job Description

This role will be within the HZC Sales team based at our London office. Reporting to the Head of Presales, you will help to shape customer proposals, build sales channel partnerships, design business models and the methods to quantify their value for customers, and develop pilot deployments to prove the value case. This varied role will provide the opportunity to engage with stakeholders across the business, its customers and its partners. You will be expected to build trusted relationships with customer stakeholders, and critically evaluate current practices, identify opportunities for improvements and build a case for change. Working within a small and talented team, you will be comfortable to provide and receive peer coaching to share skills and expertise.

Sales support

  • Work with the Presales and Sales leads to prepare materials for customer pitches, write proposals and respond to requests for information or tenders. Ensure propositions are clearly articulated and messages are tailored to customer requirements.

  • Support sales meetings, gather customer feedback and share with Sales, Operations, Product and Commercial teams to refine propositions.

  • Proactively identify potential sales opportunities and work with Sales leads to develop them.

  • Gather required data to support an effective set of metrics to monitor sales performance and enable prioritisation of activity and resources, communicate performance within the team and across the business.


  • Presales support
  • Support the Head of Presales as appropriate, to:

  • + Create business case models illustrating the value of our propositions and tailor them to specific customer opportunities as necessary.
    + Identify potential sales channels and shared value propositions, and engage with partners to validate, refine and implement them.
    + Review existing partner capabilities and plans and identify potential synergies or risks
    + Negotiate and execute partnership memorandums of understanding
  • Create market research and competitor analyses to support marketing and sales strategy development.

  • Monitor external market trends with particular reference to developments and innovation in technology, business models and customer propositions


  • Innovation and pilots
  • Support the Head of Presales to:

  • + Explore potential new markets and business models based on our solution suite
    + Identify new opportunities to extend the business offer and increase value to customers
    + Develop opportunities to run as a pilot, define scope and agree partners to involve
    + Present options to the leadership team and gain buy in to run pilot
    + Oversee delivery of pilots, building strong relationships with internal and external partners and coordinating with other team members to develop a robust methodology and deliver high quality results
    + Build approach to scale up from pilot to full market deployment.
  • Work with Strategy and Data Science teams to develop fleet and energy strategy project proposals, and support project delivery, with particular reference to business case and total cost of ownership modelling.


  • Ad hoc team support
  • Assist the Sales, Operations and other teams as required

  • Support other ad hoc-requests and projects

  • Act as a 'player-coach', supporting other team members to learn and develop

    We're looking for a team player, who is motivated by delivering great work and the Hitachi vision. The role will be a mixture of remote-hybrid work with 2 days/week working at Hitachi Office (Broadgate Tower, 20 Primrose Street, EC2A 2EW)


  • The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and background:

  • Degree in a relevant subject (Minimum 2.1 or equivalent)

  • 1-2 years' experience working in a technical sales, business strategy or innovation role, for example at a consultancy or blue chip company

  • Excellent MS Office skills, experience with other business intelligence tools (e.g. Power BI) an advantage

  • Strong interest in sustainability, energy and transport

  • Soft Skills:

  • + Strategic thinking and analysis: ability to understand and convey complex technical concepts simply; ability to extrapolate from trends and identify implications
    + Excellent communication: ability to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders, tailoring content and style according to audience
    + Time management: ability to maintain high quality work under time pressure
    + People skills: ability to challenge, influence and manage key stakeholders and work well within a team
  • System Skills: Ability to acquire new skills quickly in order to interrogate systems; strong numeracy and ability to develop predictive models in Excel or other software packages

  • Self starter: proven ability to proactively develop and deliver a programme of activities to achieve an objective; ability to identify and pursue activities that will be supportive of business strategy
