Full Job Description

Applications are invited for the role of Safeguarding Learning and Development Officer to support the mission and ministry of those working and worshiping in our churches and parishes in Sussex.

The Safeguarding Learning and Development Officer will play a key role in providing high quality training to volunteers, parishes and clergy and ensure that good practice and standards are met.

Principle duties include:

  • Management and delivery of safeguarding training events

  • Coordination of the Diocesan Safeguarding training team

  • Development and implementation of a Learning & Development plan

  • Overseeing the transition of the Parish Safeguarding Dashboard system

  • Offering support and advice to Parishes around good safeguarding practice

  • Providing advice regarding safeguarding referrals


  • We are looking for a candidate who can demonstrate the following qualifications, knowledge and skills

  • Experience of delivering training or workshops - a teaching or training qualification would be an advantage

  • Experience of managing and implementing training and/or quality development or improvement programmes

  • Knowledge of key legislation and statutory safeguarding frameworks for working with children or volunteers

  • Experience of responding to safeguarding concerns relating to children or vulnerable adults

  • Is professional, friendly and self-motivated with high levels of enthusiasm

    The role is for 21 hours per week with the option to work the hours flexibly through the week. The post is offered at a salary of £21,000 per annum (pro rata of FTE £35,000 pa). and based at Church House, Hove with the opportunity to apply to use the DBF's remote working policy to work from home for part of the week. The post holder will be required to travel across the diocese to deliver training and development activities and may be asked to work outside of normal office hours for this reason.


  • We offer a 0.6 pro-rata entitlement of 28 days of annual leave, plus bank holidays and 2 privilege days per year, flexitime, free parking, the ride to work scheme, and the Diocesan Pension Scheme with 15.1% employer contribution.
