Full Job Description

SSG provides specialist security advice, compliance and assurance to areas of the public sector that require the highest levels of security protection. SSG is the Government's expert provider specialising in design, installation and maintenance of both custom in-house security systems and highly accredited commercial products on the government estate.

Working as part of a 230-person team, we provide full life support services to UK Defence and Government sites throughout the UK and overseas.

We are looking for a motivated and passionate professional to join our Higher Management Group (HMG) to take on a new coordinated function in a fast moving and diverse operating environment.

Person specification

Main Tasks will include:

Risk, Assurance, Compliance and Safety Lead

As an independent SCS1 area within DIO's Security Directorate, this post will be responsible for the identification, collation and forward integration of risk.

SSG Risk falls in to 2 key areas; internal risk to business operations across the range of functional areas which is managed within the DIO TLB as well as the articulation of Defence security risk to Directorate of Security and Resilience in concert with AH Plans.

In addition, this post will line manage and hold responsibility for the existing Assurance and Compliance (A&C) structure within SSG. A&C is the bedrock of SSG's ability to operate both within Defence and across other Government departments. Its responsibilities include, but are not restricted to, ensuring that SSG operations remain JSP compliant, specifically JSP815 as well as ensuring SSG's accreditation to NSI, BSI and ISO45001 systems are maintained to the correct standard.

Security Lead

SSG maintains it's own internal security staff as an essential element in delivering security systems in the Secret, STRAP and Above Secret spaces across Defence and OGD. In doing so, SSG is routinely required to operate in the secret environment which brings unusual challenges of vetting, data & physical security management and security education. The role will be the interlocutor with DIO's PSyA to ensure SSG security standards remain JSP444 compliant across of the associated functional areas and will provide line management responsibility to the SSG security team.

Corporate Governance Lead

This role will be the TLB-to-SSG focus for all areas of Corporate Governance (CG) and compliance. Sitting neatly alongside Risk and Assurance, the post will have specific responsibility to ensure that not only does SSG remain compliant in the CG environment but that SSG correctly fulfils its reporting responsibility to the TLB and MoD CG elements.

Annual Business Plan Lead

A key element of this role will be to write, maintain and report against the SSG Business Plan (BP). Derived from the Security & Estates BP, itself a derivative of the TLB and MoD plans, the SSG plan will set out the business projection for the next Financial Year in order to offer a handrail for development as well as providing a mechanism to measure effectiveness. Very much central to the SLT activity, development and reporting of the BP is a key element of SSG enablement.

Line Management

The post will report to Business Manager and sit alongside Finance, Commercial and People Grade 7's going forward.

Key Secondary Tasks

  • Assist with the development of the Stategic Workforce Plan (SWfP) alongside SSG people and finance staff.

  • Lead for SSG Forecast Of Events (FOE)

  • Lead for SSG Business Continuity Plan

  • 2nd Line Of Defence (2LoD) Governance

  • Plus other HMG coordination tasks as necessary., Full UK driving licence - SSG staff regularly travel as part of their role including several areas not accessible by public transport., We'll assess you against these behaviours during the selection process:

  • Working Together, Where business needs allow, some roles may be suitable for a combination of office and home-based working. This is a non-contractual arrangement where all office-based employees will be expected to spend a minimum of 60% of their working time in office, subject to capacity and any required workplace adjustments. Requirements to attend other locations for official business, or work in another MOD office, will also count towards this level of attendance.
