Full Job Description

· Prepare the shop front for opening, and perform close down tasks

· Stock the display counter and retail areas and keep them stocked and attractive throughout the day

· Have good knowledge of our products, confidently answering customer questions regarding ingredients, allergens and flavours.

· Promote our products, box sets, offers and services, and maximise shop income

· Accurately prepare drinks and ice creams to customer preferences, and process payments

· Monitor delivery partner platforms and package orders within the allotted timeframes

· Create packaging including contents labels, and use our order management software and work boards to link production with outgoing orders

· Keep the bar, customer and counter areas clean and tidy, and cleaning the coffee machine at the end of each day (including a deep clean once per week)

· Comply with food hygiene standards and regulations, and take daily fridge and freezer temperatures

· Track stock levels, including packaging, and communicate production/ordering requirements to management

· Receive deliveries of ingredients and stock, and assist with storing away

· Additional assistance back of house with production may be required

· Additional assistance at external events may be required from time to time.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES - Back of House (this is a more minor part of the job)

· Working with the bakery team on the day's tasks

· Preparing the bakery for production and cleaning down at the end of the day

· Preparing tins and trays, and boxes and labels for storage

· Weighing ingredients, mixing, portioning and preparing products for baking

· Baking and decorating our products

· Oven loading and unloading

· Preparing toppings

· Taste testing to ensure consistency of products

· Assisting with new flavour and product designs

· Simple chocolate work including basic tempering

· General as-you-go cleaning of the bakery area and some light washing up

To be successful in this role, you should ideally have previous retail experience, ideally in a food or café environment, good customer service skills and some knowledge of how to use professional coffee machines. Previous baking or food handling/preparation experience, ideally in a business environment, would also be helpful. Full drinks and ice cream preparation training will be given, and you will be fully trained in the specific recipes and techniques that we have developed to produce our goods.

You will need to be comfortable with using a computer as several elements of the role requires the use of IT software, and you need to be able to accurately and reliably follow fairly simple recipes and sets of production instructions.

You will need to work well in a team, have a friendly manner that can be translated into customer service skills, and be open minded to new challenges and opportunities. You will need to be able to prioritise and coordinate with the other team members and keep a cool focused head under pressure and at busy times. Deadlines and priorities can sometimes change at quite short notice and you need to be comfortable working with this.

You will need to ensure that we maintain a gluten-free vegan baking environment at all times and have full awareness of major allergen cross-contamination risks and how to avoid them. Full allergen training will be given., · Good grasp of English and Maths

· Excellent communication skills

· Pro-active with good attention to detail and ability to follow recipes and instructions, including scaling of quantities and variable ingredients combinations

· Ability to work to exact specifications under tight deadlines

· Comfortable with context switching and multi-tasking as the shop vs bakery requires

· A team player with a can-do attitude. This is a small team where everyone needs to be prepared to help out in every aspect of daily business life.

· Previous experience working in retail, barista work, baking or food preparation

· Food Hygiene level 2 certificate and knowledge of food allergens is desirable, although training will be given

· Preparedness to serve customers with all food and drink items we sell in the shop. Full training will be given.

· You do not have to follow a vegan or gluten-free diet to work with us!

NOTE: This position can be physically demanding involving standing for extended periods with lots of moving about, twisting and lifting as the bakery is a compact and busy environment. You will need to be comfortable with lifting and moving sacks of raw ingredients weighing up to 25kg.

Working hours: Saturday 9.30 am to 5 pm or sometimes slightly after for close down. Further hours, days and overtime may be available in due course.

Salary: dependent on age and experience of candidate, Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: £8.60-£11.50 per hour

Expected hours: 7.5 per week
