Full Job Description

The role of Receptionist / Clerical Officer is to serve as a contact for patients accessing our services. We are a small dynamic team providing an excellent service to our patients and staff.

You will be working within a small team who enjoy a supportive and friendly working environment, where we encourage participation and learning from one another at all times and focus our efforts towards a patient centred service., The post holder will work within University Hospitals Bristol (Bristol Royal Infirmary Hospital)and be responsible for providing a welcoming and efficient service as the patient's first point of contact with the hospital.

This will include greeting and signposting patients and relatives, processing patients using the Patient Administration System and liaising with clinicians and colleagues to facilitate a smooth and timely flow of patients through the department., For a more detailed job description, main responsibilities and Person Specification, please refer to the job description document attached to this vacancy.

  • Previous experience of being an initial point of contact for patients

  • The ability to communicate effectively both via telephone and in person

  • Appetite to learn and develop

  • IT literate.

  • Previous experience using Medway or other patient administration system is desirable, Qualifications


  • Essential

    Educated to GCSE, grade C or above (or equivalent) in English Language and Maths

    Knowledge & Experience

    Essential

    Clerical / administration experience including filing and / or reception

    Desirable
  • Previous reception experience in a healthcare or public setting

  • Previous NHS experience


  • Skills & Abilities

    Essential
  • Excellent / professional telephone / reception manner

  • Flexible approach to duties

  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of accuracy

  • Proven good organisational skills

  • Good IT skills including Microsoft packages

  • Confidence to handle difficult conversations with patients, relatives and carers

  • Attention to detail

  • Ability to work effectively in a busy team, adjust to change and motivate others

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
